Imbue Item not working in Storm of Zehir?

I'm having trouble getting the Warlock's Imbue Item feat to work as intended (I think) in Storm of Zehir expansion.

Since enchantments only use Gold and Feat / Caster level it's not an issue but when I try to create an item that requires a spell to be cast I still get the error that I don't have that spell memorized on one of my characters. As I understand it, the Imbue item feat is suppose to take care of that part of any recipe requiring a spell as it did in MOTB.

I've searched and searched the web and haven't seen anyone really complaining about it not working for them so I'm not sure what's going on. I have the Complete Craftsman rebalanced 1.76 for MOTB / Zehir installed but I've removed it from override folder and tested it again and it still says the same message.

Specifically, I was trying to create a Cloak of Charisma +2 and it says I need Eagle's Splendor spell. I have a Warlock in party I created (not my main) and he's got Imbue item feat and lot's of Use Magic Device (I don't think this is required but I read it somewhere about the Zehir Crafting Plus mod which I don't have).

What else does he need? Never had an issue with Imbue Item with MOTB and casting it on the satchel instead of the spell. Of course this expansion doesn't work that way so not sure what else needs to be done.

Imbue Item doesn't work properly if a crafting requires a spell. It still requires the spell.  I fixed this in my Crafting Plus system but Crafting Plus is not a replacement or fix for SoZ it is a SoZ based system for new campaigns.

There are many many bugs in crafting in SoZ because (1) good ideas but bad scripting, (2) bugs in the 2da files, (3) bugs in the recipes, (4) bugs in the item properties.

Rechecking my notes it looks like Obsidian added the check for IMBUE_ITEM in the 1.23 patch for SoZ. So if you are on version 1.23 and do not have something in your override folder that is interfering then you should be able to use it in the SoZ campaign.

What I was remembering is that the 1.23 patch did not make that correction in the crafting only version of their script which is why in my SoZ Crafting Plus I had to do so.

The 1.23 version bypasses the spell requirement if the enchanted/crafter has IMBUE_ITEM. It still incorrectly tries to remove the spell from you though. Their fix was half correct.

hey Kaldor,

not sure if you've been following a related thread: Misc Bugs in MOTB I don't see posts on

Since SoZ crafting is ofc *not* OC/MotB crafting (and i'm not sure how unsimilar they are), if there's a bug in SoZ's ImbueItem that's not addressed by Lord Grave's Imbue Item Indexing Bug Fix ... I for one would like a note of it in the nwn2fixes thread. no worries tho / thanks for the heads-up

Thanks for the reply Kaldor.  I read that part in your SoZ Crafting Plus mod about it was fixed in 1.23 by Obsidian which I don't understand why it's not working for me.

kevL's: This is a different bug from my MoTB post.  I was thinking back then that maybe the Imbue Item fix would work but this is something different in that all recipes still ask for the spell in order to be cast even when character has Imbue Item feat.  I tested it with Imbue Item fix for MoTB and the other fix you came up with in my other post and neither affect this SoZ bug.

--------------------------

Testing SoZ crafting without any Override Folder.  I added a Warlock to my party and gave him enough exp to get Imbue Item feat unlocked at lvl 12.

Tried to create a wondrous item Cloak of Charisma + 2 and I get the following message.

"Crafting failed.  No party member has available uses of the spell Eagle's Splendor."

I had noticed before that when I memorize that spell that it doesn't get used in the actual crafting of the item.  So is the fix they did only allow Imbue item not to use up a spell of some other character but still requires you need the spell?  Doesn't make much sense to me if that's the case.

Or is my copy not working correctly?  It says I have NWN2 complete 1.023 (1765) Final in the startup Menu and I have nothing in override.

kevL,

The SoZ crafting is really completely independent of the MotB system, so Lord Grave's fix for MotB wouldn't affect SoZ crafting.  Unfortunately the SoZ crafting scripts came in two varieties, one that also included the trade system used in SoZ, and one that didn't include the trade system and would be more usable with community created campaigns.  They had different bugs in the two different versions, and only made fixes in the version that SoZ used (craft + trade).  All of my analysis and work a few years back was trying to get the crafting system to work for community campaigns, not to fix the SoZ specific versions.  Before I could make recommendations for the fix pack I would have to review all of that and look more closely at the craft + trade versions of their scripts.

It sounds like it should work for you.  I'll revisit the scripts and try to duplicate your situation. The code change they made was to the function that tests for the spell. They just added an additional check there for the IMBUE_ITEM feat and if found return true for the function (which indicates to the rest of the script that you have the spell.)

According to line 42 of the nx2_crafting.2da file the Cloak of Charisma +2 recipe nx2_r_bck_char02 requires:

2000 gp

2 of nx2_cp_wisp

1 of nx2_cloak_basic

Eagle's Splendour spell (bypassed in kinc_trade_crafting if the crafter or someone else in the party has IMBUE ITEM feat)

Craft Wondrous Items feat

Proximity to a mage bench

Are you certain you meet all of the requirements and where is the mage bench you are using?
