Evil File Refuses To Be Deleted

Okay, I really could use some help with something here. I am after a long break was gonna play some NWN2 community modules and am trying to patch/update the game version past v1.20. Problem is it keeps aborting, saying there's a zip file that needs deleting in my temp folder. Okay, so after much hair pulling I finally found the blasted file and tried deleting it several times. It disappeared each time so I thought my work was done. However everytime I tried to update the game again, the same message comes up, saying the zip file needs deleting. I go back and check and IT'S STILL THERE. No matter how many times I actually 'delete' it, it's still there, sticking its tongue out at me, refusing to go away.

So, out of frustration and no further ideas on what to do, I deleted the temp folder only for it to pop right back up with the pesky file still in it. And I checked my Recycle Bin too and deleted several copies of this zip file from there as well. So then my next hurdle, I look up how to delete pesky files like this and find out about Task Manager. So I load up Task Manager to delete the file, and guess what? It's not there in the Task Manager but it is there when I'm NOT in Task Manager. So I am left unable to delete this piece of s**t, and am about to just give up on playing NWN2 for good. That seems to be the easy 'solution' albeit not a desirable one. I don't know if the fact the game installs it in Program Files x86 has anything to do with it or not.

Please help?

I love RPGs for the stories they tell, the adventures and character creation possibilities. The histories and made-up philosophies. A multiverse of ideas, creations, and story telling with rich in-depth backgrounds. The possibilities are endless. Definitely something to get wholly immersed in.

1) Does system reboot help?

2) Try extracting file elsewhere first.

3) Try downloading file again.

I restarted my computer, then tried to open the file itself to see what was in it. There's actually no files in the zip whatsoever when I opened it with Free File Opener. Yet whenever I try to delete it, it asks for admin approval to do so and so I do but it doesn't work, still refusing to delete. I am at a loss here of what to do. I might just have to uninstall the whole game and reinstall everything again. But then again, that may not even help. Until I can figure out a way to delete this file for good, the game will not update properly.

Okay, I might have figured out what the deal is here, but that presents its own problems. You see, I have NWN1 PRC installed on my computer and that as far as I know requires Microsoft.NET Framework version 1.1 and no higher. The problem is NWN2 and expansions seem to require Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 or higher. See the problem? Which means I have to choose between the PRC and NWN2. Correct me if I'm wrong here before I do anything else. IF this is the case, then others might want to know about this. Tough pill to swallow considering I was all hyped about the PRC for NWN1.

Of course, maybe I am barking up the wrong tree and this isn't the issue at all. This stuff tends to fry my brain after all.

Go ahead and install the latest version of the framework - the old one will still be available to programs that need it.

If the file has o bytes and is empty than it might be corrupted -> I once or twice had those, but never actually managed to delete such file.

@Saruzal: Thanks, I did that. That was helpful to know.

@Werelynx: Well, at this point I did the only thing I could do. Delete the game using the Windows uninstall utility and will have to reinstall everything again. Hopefully I won't run into any more problems. Thanks for the help.
