Crash During CK Cutscene

Hi. Long-time player of the game using install from CD (all patches and upgrades inc MotB and SoZ). I recently started a new OC campaign with various mods like TCC, Kaedrin's, etc. Ive installed nothing I haven't played the game to completion with before (although I have updated some of the mods), however the game is crashing half-way through the first Crossroad Keep cutscene when Nevalle is giving CK to the MC. Nevalle introduces Kana and Veedle then says another line, and I believe the scene is about to change to Zhjaeve talking when the crash occurs. I've replayed from a previous save and the crash reoccurs at the same cutscene.

This is the first time I'm playing the game under Windows10, but I'm not discounting that a mod may be at fault - but how can I tell if one is? Is there a tool which can allow me to analyse what caused the crash? Any help is appreciated.

Further to the info I've already posted, after testing it seems the crash occurs due to journal entries either being started or closed. In Crossroad Keep it crashes when the cutscene switches to Zhjaeve speaking which starts a new journal entry, and I've worked around that (deleted everything in override, then restored it after the cutscene finished) and the game crashes again when visiting West Harbour and speaking to Retta Starling - which closes the "Soldier's Story" journal entry. Prior to the CK cutscene I had no issues with journal entries.

then, it sounds like a mod is the culprit ...

  • and the game crashes again when visiting West Harbour and speaking to Retta Starling

i suggest removing mods one at a time from your /Override until the dialog (hopefully) completes. Then the latest mod removed could well be the issue.

btw. Glancing through your list of mods above, I have a suspicion you've got several versions of the same files in /Override. This shouldn't cause the crash by itself, but can lead to 'unpredictable' behavior since the engine just sort of picks one to use.

There are many programs available that can check for duplicated filenames ... if you find any, regardless if whether you want to merge them, the filenames that pop up can give a sense of what to be wary of ... but again, this shouldn't cause crashes. rather, it sounds like a specific mod is doing that at present
