Server hosting for friends

I have recently gotten back into NwN and have created a server that friends want to try and and play with me however whenever I put the server online anything outside of my network gets the "Server timeout" this sounded like a port forwarding issue to me so I looked up the ports that needed to be forwarded (most of this was from 2008-2012 so may be out of date) I am still getting the same issues. Any ideas? Maybe my port forwards are flawed or I am missing something.

Thanks for any help

The necessary ports haven't changed. While some of them are probably no longer necessary with Gamespy dead, up until Wednesday I was hosting quite happily on the same ports. Then my ISP (Virgin Media) gave us an updated modem/router and suddenly they won't work, even DNX won't work. Something to do with the firmware in the router itself. I've known two other long term hosters suddenly be unable to do so because a restriction by their ISP somewhere down the line prevents more than a couple of people logging into their server at a time. So it may be an idea to check if there are any difficulties with your ISP or hardware.

Try using logmein Hamachi. Create a server, have all your friends join it and use that IP address for LAN direct connects. Alternatively, there's a server list somewhere but you'd have to download the module being used by the server you choose.

Edit: In case you haven't used it before, all your friends need to download Hamachi and join the server you make in hamachi, in addition to direct connecting in NWN.
