Specialist Mages~

Are wizard specializations given a variable in NWscript? I was hoping to expand on the mechanics for specializing since they're generally not worth it; but it seems to be a hardcoded feature.

They aren't. The only way to even find a speciailist mage's school is to use a NWNX function. Specifically, the nwnx_funcs plugin and script library.

There is a way to check w/o NWNX2. Upon PC creation, specialist wizards are given a feat; Greater Spell Focus Abjuration, Greater Spell Focus Conjuration, Greater Spell Focus Divination, etc... . Just check this series of feats when a PC logs into your server/module for the very first time and set a variable or value on an item in their inventory that they cannot drop later. You'd also need to add something to your level up event(s) to check for the feats if someone adds wizard as a level while multiclassing. You can't simply just check for this feat alone as any wizard that takes spell focus in these schools can later take the greater spell focuses. The catch is, specialist wizards get the greater version upon taking their first wizard level and skip the spell focus completely.

Never thought of that. Cool tip, kalbaern. Good to know.

Confirming what Kalbaern wrote. I just tested this and verified that both wizards and sorcerers who specialize in necromancy gain the feat greater spell focus (necromancy) during character creation. I'm assuming that this is true for all other schools of magic.

Thanks Kalbaern!

It works for all of them. I'd tested it years (and years) ago when helping another PW and they all could be detected. I don't have my old scripts, but will fire up the wayback machine and see if I can find them soon.
