Changing the number of spells per day

Is there a way to change the number of spells a spellcaster can cast per day if so would it require me to have extensive knowledge of scripting? Sorry if this has been asked before, I've searched the forum but found no similar topics.

The easiest way to do that is to edit the appropriate cls_spgn_***.2da (e.g. cls_spgn_wiz.2da) file and put it in a hak.

Is what I name the hak. file important, and would it be a problem if the hak. file only included the cls_spgn file i edited?

Choose a hak name which is not already in use, avoiding those that might be used by others in the future (e.g. myhak).

You need to add the hak to your module properties in the toolset.

A hak must contain at least one file, but just one is fine.

It doesn't even need to be a valid game file - for example, you can have a hak that contains nothing except a text file. That's sometimes used to make a patch hak, so that content can be added later without forcing players to download the entire module and its haks again.

I am assuming there is no way to prevent AI from having as much spell uses as I have.

Not if you upgrade the spell gain 2da for your class. If you want to boost just the PC, you could increase the appropirate ability score (e.g. intelligence for wizards) which would grant bonus spells. This could be done by giving the PC a custom item (e.g. helm of intellect) but that is subject to a limit of +12 to any one ability score.

Another approach (possibly a simpler one) is to give the PC an item that has the bonus spell slot property. The item has to be equipped to work and removing it will clear the extra slots granted. But, it's not uncommon for spellcasters to use such items, particularly if spells are slotted so that long-term buffs are in the far right slots, so the PC can rest, buff, then remove the extra-slots item, if needed. Of course, spontaneous casters may not want to use an item that grants extra slots.

It should also be possible to add the extra-slot properties to a skin item. It could even be modified on level-up to change the number of slots granted, as desired.

Sadly, the bonus spell slot property is not available as an scriptable non-item effect.
