Possible various module listings

Hello there, I'm Werelynx and I love NWN1 modules.
I expanded the original class-specific modules list http://neverwintervault.org/article/editorial/class-specific-module-list (~90% of it is mine)

I'm thinking of creating few more listings and maintaining the old lists like romance, shorties, horror, kid-friendly.. of course the links needs updating, but I would do that when we have the last module migrated.

IDEA 1: [DONE - link]
I'm specially thinking of Unusual Module List (UML) which would list all "strange" modules that 'really' differ from "rural" longsword-hero adventures.
Examples:
 A) Play as..
    i) vampire:
       1. Heaven defied [short desc.]
       2. Science Macabre
          ..
    ii) orc:
        1. Akkei orc campaign (part 1, part 2)
 B) Save christmas
    1. Santa is missing
 C) Halloween adventure
    1. The House in the Forest (A Halloween Adventure)
..

IDEA 2: [DONE - link]
Another thing would be to list campaigns (more than one module in series) + those suggested as possible campaigns in the old old nwn boards

IDEA 3: [COMPILING - link]
Yet another thing would be Evil PC modules in three subcategories:
  1.Designed especially for evil;
  2.Both evil and good paths available;
3.Evil compatible. Those that you 'could' play as evil (like greedy mercenary, but no evil special path)

IDEA 4: [For now a part of UML above]
I don't remember if we have humorous/funny/not serious module list other than the old vault category that is..

I have two questions to community:
1. What do you think about the above? Are the new lists needed?
2. Would anyone like to help me with those tasks/lists?

PS: I know Berliad is thinking of recreating hero-path module list as well

Bravo for useful lists!  I like idea #1 perhaps the best, along with your first set (romance, shorties, horror, kid-friendly).  Maybe aim for lots of smaller, focused lists?

I always admired the efforts to pull together all of the Forgotten Realms ones too (or other consistent settings: planescape, greyhawk, etc).  That's a big undertaking.

In any case, do what tickles your fancy!

I am indeed working on the Hero's Path lists.  I actually did the typing, but not the linking, on Friday.  Right now it's in a google docs spreadsheet, but it remains to be seen if that's the best way to go moving forward.  I'm going to look into embedding it in a post, as long as that doesn't break anything.  But I might just copy it over into the forum format and then clean it up.  Probably will work on it next week.

I also did a quick Hero's Path list for the nwn2 modules that have already been uploaded here.  It's only 15 modules so far, but I was impressed at how many would work.

You say by setting.. http://forum.bioware.com/topic/124337-modules-listed-by-prime-material-p... Leemer done it already. If you feel like expanding/updating links then go ahead.

Regarding your list: Mine list(s) use article form and aside from class-specific has little love from me, just copied from old vault. You might want to consider uploading it as article as well :)

I love the UML idea, I had a lot of fun playing an orc module recently, and I'm currently playing through a lich module. These sorts of modules are pretty rare, and finding them can be tricky, but they're a wonderful change of pace.

There's definitely use for a campaigns list too - like most folks, I love a good campaign sometimes, and being able to find the entire listing somewhere makes it easier to track down all the chapters, which means folks are more likely to download and play them.

Evil PC listing is also cool, though I wonder if it also fits under UML?

I was idly considering an LGBTQ friendly module list as well - as I've mentioned in one of my reviews (I think for Solaufein?) it's rare for builders to include the possibility of gay or lesbian relationships, and/or to assume a heteronormative world. I hoped by putting such a list together, I could help other LGBTQ players find content that might have more appeal.

LGBTQ - Q????

anyway please make such a list - I don't feel comfortable with making it(no offense). From what I remember Enigma Islands by Proleric and Citadel are eliglible for that.

Evil modules - yes they are unusual, but if I put them in that 3 categories, then they need separate list.

In LGBTQ, the Q stands for Gender-queer :)

It's cool that you don't feel comfortable making such a list. I'll gladly make it :)

I'm torn between making it an article or a hopefully-stickied post in this forum.  Which do you think will be easier for players to find?  If it's an article, it seems like it might get buried....although I could always create a new one every few months if updates are needed.  A stickied post, on the other hand, never appears on the front page, but would be fairly prominently displayed for players that make it to this forum.

Decisions, decisions... :)

Edit: Another idea.  To avoid cluttering up this forum with stickies (the bioware forums are horrible this way), maybe we could have ONE stickied post here that links to each of the lists that people produce.  Then, each list could be an article.  That might be the way to go... ?

Here's one for the list -

The Bitter Taste of Blood - http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/model/bitter-taste-blood
You awake to find yourself in laying in a pool of blood with torn clothing yet have no traces of damage.  The mansion dining room is vaguely familiar, but you have no memories of who you are nor do you recognize the three corpses in the room beyond that you think you should recognize them.  After cautiously making your way downstairs, a mirror catches your attention and that you have no reflection.  You have become a vampire!

This module uses a modified version of Ercan's vampire subrace system:  Drink blood from your victims, subdue a person's will to make them an easy target, turn into mist or a wolf.  Remember to keep yourself covered when walking around outside during the day or you will take damage.  This module is also very friendly towards evil-aligned characters, especially since it is very difficult to maintain a good alignment.

However I wouldn't recommend playing anything other than rogue or multiclassed rogue.  It's possible to get through this module as something else, but there's lots of traps, locked doors, and places where it's better to sneak past stuff plus no henchmen to help you out.

Since there are so few non-combat modules out there, they might belong on this list, I agree. If there are ever enough to make it worthwhile having a list of their own, they can always be split off into a new Non-Combat Module List.

I don't know how this would work for your list, but for Baldecaran's campaign, you can also go from Cave of Songs into Prophet: Prelude:

http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/prophet-prologue-it-cann...

...and then 1-3.

http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/prophet-chapter-i-will-k...

http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/prophet-chapter-ii-centu...

http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/prophet-chapter-iii-whic...

At least, that's what I did.  I might have leveled my character from 6 to 8 prior to going into the Prelude.

...

Actually, Balduracan indicated that, if playing solo, a level 10 rogue from Honor Among Thieves can still work in Prophet.  Might make Prophet a little bit too easy....I dunno!

Modules for Evil Characters (MEC)    --  First draft

list moved to: http://neverwintervault.org/article/reference/modules-evil-characters-mec

I'm leaving categories here as well as modules that I need further intel on.

Designed especially for evil

  • see in complete list (link above)

Both evil and good paths available

  • see in complete list (link above)

Evil compatible. Those that you 'could' play as evil (like greedy mercenary, but no evil special path)

There are probably many but I don't have a habit of playing evil PCs in modules that cater to good alignments. So far what I have found are:

  • Raindrop Sessions:
  1. Raindrop Sessions - Part I - Cedar Woods
  2. Raindrop Sessions - Part II - Sundabar

If you have anything more for this please tellme ;)

Uncategorized (need further info):
Rebirth of the Phoenix(updated version of Rogue Life):

Assassin:
NightHunter Chapter-1 Blood Fued (link is external) (Assassin for story reasons; Single Player)
(link is external) ("One player should be able to set traps"; PvP; Multiplayer)
War (link is external) (Premade Ranger/Assassin Character; Single Player or Multiplayer)

Pale Master:

The Path of the Revenger (link is external) (Premade Sorcerer/Pale Master Character; Single Player)

dead links start here:
Orcs 1 - The Awakening (link is external) and Orcs 2 - Return to Al-Dha (link is external) by Akkei (fight an orc clan's wars against humans and rival orc tribes)
Road to Ruin (link is external) by Eldar Featel (another short-story module, not necessarily about evil but about a faction that preaches Entropy)
Almraiven (link is external) and Shadewood (link is external) by Fester Pot (if you're looking for a truly evil plot it might not suit your needs but it's not a "goody two-shoes saving the world" plot either; the PC is meant to be considered evil because of his/her dabbling in some kind of necromantic art, also one of the most acclaimed module series around)

This is great.  I've been looking for a good Assassin module for years.  I went ahead and migrated two of the modules listed as 'Uncategorized'  that seemed promising.

They're a series from Mark Holmberg -- Rebirth of the Phoenix and Rise of the Phoenix.

I wouldn't mind seeing a list of modules by campaign setting, specifically Ravenloft, Dragonlance, and Greyhawk.  I tend to assume things are set in Forgotten Realms unless stated otherwise because that's the default setting.

A couple of notes on these lists:

  1. Any of them can be accessed on the RoloVault module section by the entryid number in the first column.
  2. I haven't checked if any of these have been migrated, so before you go to the RoloVault, you may want to take a look yourself.  If it's not been migrated, you may want to migrate it yourself.
  3. The lists were pulled from the old vault metadata strictly based on the title and setting fields, so I can't actually guarantee that all of these are from those settings.  I recognize many of these modules, but by no means all of them.

I'd be willing to tackle Raveloft for no reason other than that I'll download it all anyway because smiting undead evil is always fun!

Good idea.

Hmm, wait.  Maybe this is a bit long for a forum posting, though. Even broken up.  How about I stick these in an article with a table of contents at the top?

Do we have Book content enabled?

Edit: Done.  Here's the article(link) with the listings all pointing to Rolovault.

For what it's worth, it's probably a good idea to double check. Just because an adventure was written for tabletop Greyhawk, Ravenloft, etc. doesn't mean the module is in that setting. For home tabletop, I know for sure I've played White Plume Mountain, Dragon Mountain, Sunless Citadel, and a few others, adapted for Forgotten Realms and Krynn. It's easy to imagine the same is true for NWN modules :)

Similarly, I'd hope without checking that any of the modules with Ravenloft somewhere in its name actually takes place in Barovia and not in Faerûn because even if you get to do battle and slay Nasher, it's not going to change the fact that the game setting is wrong.

We would need the players to report such "mistakes".

It would be a mistake for real even if only because Nasher isn't nearly awesome enough to be one of Ravenloft's darklords.

He could be the Darklord of Pitifulness. A puppet for undead betrayed Aribeth! Alternate ending to OC!

Think about it: seeing the pitifulness of Nasher and dark story of Aribeth and Fenthick(who she did not love as much as she should, but still wanted to take vengeance) the dark powers (i'm not afraid of them so I write with lowercase) have ripped the city of Neverwinter were the war between luskan hordes and a handful of heroes still wages on!

After some time Nasher has the core of the city under his control and huge wall of dead bodies separate lands under nasher from Aribeth-controlled territory. Still there are some battlefields where undead rise to fight and be slain, only to raise again the next day. (Zones, that feed those undead negative power. Near the center of Carnage Zone undead are healed each round, but when they leave the CZ they start to be hit with positive damage and thus they don't spread their woes outside the zones. Too much that is, as they manage to occasionally drag someone to join their eternal fight. Each slain by them if near enough zone or in the zone will raise and pick the site to fight with).

Nasher is weak as the plague returned for him, but still has the steel grip over the city as despote and dictator. Strangely he is the only one that seems to be affected and no one else has caught it from him yet. Plot twist: anyone to cut Nasher in a fight might catch it (some percentile chance).

Thieves are flourishing and they are working on both sites of the town associated in one of the many guilds. Beggars and war veterans from both side are roaming the streets trying to scavenge a life from the ruins. Rat population is dieing out despite the best efforts by dark powers, because however nasty hte dark powers make the rats, there still will be hungry mouths that will eat those poor rodents as famine has struck the streets of Neverwinter. Spies, scouts and secret police roam the streets. Things like weres, vamps and other realms of dread folk have not yet found their way into Neverwinter Nights realm, but they can be encountere occasionally.

There are rumours of Ancient races that are still sleeping somewhere and the unwary speak of some that are held by NAsher in the expanded dungeon under castle Never. Those voices are silenced quickly though by New (black) paladin order that are sort of inquisition and secret police under Nashy. Not that they hunt witches for no reason.. they still like magic ;)

Helm is banned on both sides. Helmites are killed, but some have been risen by..

On Ari side there is undead Desther as well as she managed to rcover his body and raise him as her undead servant. He plots every day to be freed from his dark mistress grip. His mistress (ari) is an undead as well (no idea what undead class, but banshee with perks and buffs sound accurate) as she was hanged while being staked with belly cut and bowels out. Then she was quartered still by the raging mob. She was obviously captured by PC just before he/she went to see Morag. Alternate she was killed by PC. No matter that she was raised by dark powers to be one of the duo of darklords with Nashy. She doesn't have any dreams any more from Morag nor does she have any dreams at all.

Special Mechanic: if one of the duo is killed but the other is not - it doesn't work. They need to be killed simultaneously. If not they will rise after a day back to life. And you can only kill them every so often. If single game PC has to plot to poison nasher with deadly poison and kill ari (she i s undead she can't be poisoned) while poison kill Nashy. This would be for the best ending of course. Since they are both darklords, one cannot outrule another "order" like closing hte realm boundaries. They have to agree both to do any action.

Alternate ending: if PC romanced with Aribeth she can be taken down peacufully with help from Fenthick and then PC deals with Nashy in a fight.

Every one lost hope for the return of the Champion of Neverwinter that went on to defeat Morag as he never returned. Though he must have suceeded as the assault stopped and (could be PC again as in OC continuation. Could be explained that hedraline portal took him into future and he missed the good parts).

Lastly there is a secret beacon of light in those dreaded place: Fenthick himself in his ghost form tries to aid those that still fight (or sometimes refuse to fight at all) for good. He still has some clerical powers, but he lost his trust on people and coldly calculates every move. He is still good of course, just more careful. Plot twist: no one knows he is a ghost, even he, he thinks that he was raised by someone. Not many people know that he is still out there. Also Fenthick is a little bit angry at Ari for NOT SAVING HIM.. and he heard everything that she did not love him and that she flirted with PC. He thinks it was vison from his god, but to tell the truth it was only his ghost presence that was haunting Ari until she died.

This truly is the Night Of Neverwinter! Can we survive through its Dawn until we can finally see the Morning to come?

Hmm, pretty chaotic, but I'm chaotic good.. Neverwinter Nights 3 xD

I've always thought it would be valuable to have either a separate list, or a section in "Modules by Prime Material Plane," for modules that take place in a custom setting created by the author. Unfortunately, Mike was never receptive to the idea, and my initial attempts to pull one together were lost with the old Bioware forums.

Part of my interest in this is personal, since my own (Sanctum of the Archmage) modules use a custom setting and don't appear in any of the lists. But the same is true of a number of prominent mods and series, such as Savant's Aielund Saga, Challseus' Rose of Eternity, and others.
