Comrades, I´m asking for your opinion: As you might remember, I complained a few weeks ago that NWN is too loud. In other words I can reach NWN´s volume only by maxing soundfiles and sometimes only by going over the red line by 1 - 3 decibels. I had an other idea: I replace NWN´s soundfiles, which are all compressed, with the files I have. I´d say I can replace nearly all of them and add 1000 more. The difference is that the files I have are uncompressed. It would be far easier to find a common line. Though I must say that, if we would pick thack solution, all NWN soundsets for PCs/NPCs would be too loud. De facto unuseable. Also, the intense ammount of files would slow the game down, espescially the large amount of soundsets, so I had the idea to talk to Shadooow if it is possible to patch the game. Maybe you say: "PAH! That screws up my precious installation!" Wait a minute: NWN runs easily from a memory stick, or a second HD, without beeing installed. We could also add the new classes, feats and races via Shadoows patch, if he allows it, turning the game into a NWN Darksun edition. That would be quite an amount of work, and would render modules & official campaigns unuseable but as I mentioned before, NWN runs without installation from memory sticks and 2nd HD´s. What do you think?

The 6 in 1 tileset I’m working on for Dark Sun will have T0r0’s raise and lower ground/ slopes. So it could be used to make Sandy Wastes and or Rocky Badlands.

Tonden your zigurath, is just perfect, and the towers to, remember the use of camera hack version 2, is essential, to full enjoy this game, so tall things will not be a probleme, grab it here.

You can adjust some of that by adjusting the fog distance for each area, but it is also controlled by the individual player settings I think so you may not get the speed you really want. 

 

Poly counts hurt, the higher the poly count and I mean ALL poly's, creatures, tiles, placeables etc, slows the engine down, and the engine is designed by default to only show you the surrounding tiles around the tile you are standing on.  The rest are faded in as you get closer to them.  Again, some of that is adjustable a bit with the fog settigns for the individual areas, but there are limits to the effectiveness of removing all the fog, The engine still goes by it's default 9 tile square first, it is just the way it was designed.  You have to remember that this game is OLD and was great at the time of release but has NONE of the power of the stuff that has been released over the past 5 years, much less the entire 12 since it was originally created.

 

It's sorta like your signature, it eats up a HUGE part of the screen here, especially when you have multiple posts in the thread, a large part of time is wasted just attempting to scroll past the same thing, over and over.  You can do the same sort of damage in NWN.  It WILL load all those poly's but it is certainly going to slow things down doing it.  That is why folks tend to pay close attention to how much wasted polys are being used.  If you don't really need that level of detail, you are better of removing or not creating it.  That way, when you really want or need that high poly image to be displayed, the engine can handle it instead of attempting to paint a high poly horse with high poly armour on it etc, and all the code that is hidden inside the actual animal needed for it's movement etc, folks tend to have a single horse "hidden" somewhere so the engine loads it in the background before they (the player) ever actually sees a horse in game.  The same thing is done with other scrdipting etc, loaded in sections, not all at once, to help alleviate the entire processing load.

To me, it seems to smarter to set the focus at exploring & wandering, than at butchering. If the aspect of survival gets implemented correctly, you´ve got enough trouble at your tail. No need to load countless hordes of monsters. Just my 2 cents

@ Shemsu Morag and her reptiles could be turned easily into Pterrans. The Gargoyle could be transformed into a Pterrax The Grey Render makes a decent salt golem. You may take a look at lomions website, or at the protraits I uploaded a few days ago.

    As of right now Draygoth is the only one working on NPC's, Mounts, and Creatures. I know he could use some help if you would like to do everything posted here that would be less work he would have to do.

    That said, we have been learning that too high quality can be a bad thing for NWN. So I think what ever the polly count is on the Halfling female modle would be a good cap for polly counts. She looks really good and had no lag at all when spawning in.

Could I suggest to use more Gerald Brom Art for the portraits. He is a great artist and have made most of the official DS Art in the 2nd edition. He really fits the spirit of the setting....

That´s helpful. Got the so-ut already, picked something else for the cistern fiend but that can be done easily, but the sloth was missing. He should visit a dentist.

I have thought to start with something simple: Like Dynamic Thrax hands for every dynamic race, Because their hands with fingers that end in small suckers, are the main diference in their  appearance of that cursed beings from what they were once...

Are you using the half-giant dynamic race? Should I have to include hands for them too?

Yes I love Brom's art work and I would love for this project to be filled with it. When I think of Dark Sun I think of his art work of the world.

 

    At this point nothing has been done for player races. That said, we would like to have all the playable races from Drak Sun to be playable in this project. However at this time no one has wanted to take on that project. Soon as someone comes a long who would like to set all that up then it will be all theirs to do. On the other hand if no one ever comes a long then that will be the last thing the team will taken on once everthing else is done.

I did start trying to make the tunnel part.

 

 

 

So I'm getting close. Oh and I'm using the High Castle Walls. But no I don't have the BIG stone block or the wall stopper, which I will need. I was thinking of having the BIG stone block as a placeable so that it could be moved.

 

But your welcome to help if you want. I just want everything to look as close to Brom's/Dark Sun art as possible.

I'm not familiarized with tilesets, but you can send me the model, and i'll see what can i do with the textures. But I can't say when I'll be able to do that.

I  think that I could try to made some arquitectonical models too, But as I have said I don't how to made them a tilset part. Maybe I could sent it to you, or anyboy who are good with tilesets.

For the slums, maybe you could modified the ruins of houses in the NWN desert tileset. For the ziggurat and the Rich/Noble housing, an others; Maybe you could use elements from the tileset, Aztec Exteriors v1.1 + Exteriors Redux v1.23 by Chandigar:

PS: I'm afraid I don't know the setting as well as you; Why they are called "the golden towers", I assume that they aren't made from metal because that is a rare resource in Athas?

Also sorry for lack of upload from mine side. I got a little absorbed in the diablo III export. But i have aldready converted grumite club and staves. Also i am working on custom arrows using effects. I also begun working on converting exotic creatures from morrowind. (btw i remember guide about converting wow creatures wit animation to nwn, that could be aso used for any other games)

Shields suggestion; Maybe some of the shield include in "Savage Shields v1.1" by BigfootNZ, could be useful for Dark Sun; Perhaps all of them, but some of them could requiere a little retexture or model moddification, in orther to replace the metal parts with a suitable DS alternative....

I am not sure how that creature was called, buti remember about seeing a undead made from priest dying in opposite element and its spawn.

I think that Merricksdad's Ash Zombies would do nice for fire ones.

If you backport the RWS Adobe buildings from nwn2 (assuming that basnt already been done somewhere) they look very like the slums/warrens pictured in the artwork.

However that said they don't look like Dark Sun Slums.

 

Unless you were talking about a different hak with badly damaged adobe buildings like the above picture.

The Wanderer's Journal does do a wonderful job at giving you a little information about most things in the Tyr region and the world.

The other books are just novals that take you into the world, and brings it to life. So for people who enjoy reading good storys books they will help you understand what it's like to live in the world of Dark Sun.

That said if you don't care for story books/novals and just what to get an idea of what the world is about then the Wanderer's Journal is a very good book for that.

No its not perfect, but sense I just started trying to learn how to use Gmax a few weeks ago and I still have a lot to learn about the program, I think it looks close. That said, I will look into making something that even looks closer once I have mastered Gmax. :P

There is a lot of work that still needs done with the haks and even more when it comes to setting up the Server and building the world. So if anyone thinks they would like to help out with this project, I'm sure there is something that you could help out with.

Well, my "Gaj" creature is fairly finished. Should I send the files to Tonden Ockay or to Draygoth?

It's a bit of a high-poly model for what is common in NWN, sorry. However it seems to work quite well in my computer. It could work even better if it would be compiled, but I'm not sure how to do that...

The weak point of the creature is the animation. I'm not an expert on that. I have used a modified version of the NWN beetle animations as base with mindflayer tentacles and spider jaws. Probably a person which have better skills and patience with animatios could do something better. However the animations looks quite funtional any way; You can judge the result by yourshelf in this video:

It's mainly based in the art of the DS 4th edition, because this edition have the more detailed pictures of the creature; What I was able to find about. I also have use the 4th Ed art for the portrait...

PS: trying the DS items Hak. i have notice that the middle parts of the trikal don't appear in game; have had anybody the same problem?

The brundle-fly-telepod-door crossbreed might be a splendid portrait for the gaj. Really sick stuff from the movie "the fly" Maybe I can make something of it.
