Custom Content Challenge: October 2017: Gnome Stuff

The theme for this month's challenge: "Gnome Stuff":

Gnome body knows the trouble's I've seen.... Gnome body knows the sorrows.... How about some gnome stuff? We've had elves, halflings, and half orcs. Might be nice to give some love to the lil popeye-armed, big-nosed tinkerers and pranksters.

This theme was suggested by MannyJabrielle.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by November 1st, 2017. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here

When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge.

We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

One plea. Not too many more heads. Including the svirfneblin ones from May's Underdark ccc, there have previously been 3 or maybe 4 sets of heads in previous ccc. How about some complete gnomes instead. Gnomes in overalls, gnomes wearing aprons and toolbelts, gnomes in fantastical mage gear (gnomes are well known for specialising in illusion). Gnome sized dwellings and/or furniture. Ponies with gnomish accoutrement. Remember not all gnomes dwell in arcane space or mount nevermind - some are actually sane!

My Warcraft gnome is totally sane and I don't think anyone's ever made a suitable head for Wrenchester Cogvolt, gnomish rogue/assassin/murderhobo/roboticist/dragonslayer. My Warcraft gnome. Just saying

(You totally don't need to but if you do I will appreciate this)

As for actual things, Clothes work great. Heck knows I've needed overalls for the more tinkery sorts in NWN forever. Ridiculous magictech armor also works great, as do ridiculous machines. As do really hidden forest dwellings for the forest type gnomes

I might have one or two weirdo critters along the pipeline, one very basic and I'm surprised no one has done it, and one a bit absurd, but we'll see how the month devleops

I didn't say no more heads, only not too many more. A nice new noggin for a named gnome - neat. What I was trying to say is that "We need more variety in gnomedom, not just heads"

@Mecheon

Sure, a head or two won't be a problem.

Do you have a portrait that the head should be made to match, or do you just want a NWN-style version of "friendly-looking young adult male gnome with slightly scruffy hair, sideburns and a goatee"?

To clear things up, here is a list of all the gnomish things that have been made for previous ccc -

2016 April   Baldurs Gate and Offspring Shemsu-Heru Quayle's Head (gnome body part)
2016 April   Baldurs Gate and Offspring Shemsu-Heru Tiax's Head (gnome body part)
2017 May     Underdark Societies Stuff TheBarbarian Deep Gnome Heads (head models)

other

2014 November  Urban Adventures Shemsu-Heru Gnomish Battle-Machine (creature model)

All but 2 of the gnomish things submitted to previous ccc's have been heads which is why I asked for not too many more heads! The above can be verified in the catalogue.

Here's some suggestions for those that want to build something - how about more variety in gnome models.

  • Fat gnome
  • Female gnome
  • Gnome children
  • Gnome skeletons
  • Gnome in worn and stained leather apron
  • Gnome in stained lab coat
  • Gnome sized head aligned vfx - weird looking visual aparatus, goggles, miner's candles, anti-fume bandana, large ear trumpet, etc.
  • Gnome sized holdables - wands, rods, staves, magnifying glass, mirror, clipboard, notepad, etc.

Or even a very special head for when the gnomish device has just gone bang - face blackened and hair wild and blown backwards perhaps even smoking still. Note this is the only head I'm going to suggest.

More suggestions (and you can blame the late David Bowie for the more punishing ones)

  • Gnome undead - skeleton, zombie, etc.
  • Gnome in flowing, dust stained robes aka a Gnomad
  • Gnome with fishing rod aka Garden Gnome
  • Gnome with guitar and long hair aka a Rolling Gnome
  • Gnome making a ticking sound aka a Metrognome

Sorry about most of that (especially the video, most of the rest on YouTube were really naff) but at least it's out of my system (and a lot of others I suspect) now.

deviantArt is a wonderful resource for inspirational pictures. Take this one. I could easily see a tinker gnome building one of these and then complaining after its funding was cut after it torched the place. Anyone fancy making one for the ccc?

I couldn't get a David Bowie  gnome, but at least I have got  a Klaus Nomi one. It have been made from a model by Ben Mathis at "http://www.poopinmymouth.com/portfolio/". I have thought that it could works well for a gnome bard or a gnome aristocrat, with all my respet to the author of the model and the dead artist who have been portraited on it.

Also use for a dynamic gnome-head...
