NWN EE Folder Questions

I have a number of questions about the folder and file structure used by NWN EE. I would really appreciate any answers and insights.

  1. Am I correct in assuming that files placed in EE’s Documents\Neverwinter Nights will always override the corresponding files in the Beamdog Library folders?
  2. Do INI files belonging to mods such as Project Q go in the Documents\Neverwinter Nights folder?

I am asking these questions so I can provide support for EE in the Neverwinter Nights Installer Tool (NIT). So far I am making the following assumptions…

  • I can ignore everything in the BeamdogLibrary directory because a user should never place any files in this folder.
  • I can treat the Documents\Neverwinter Nights folder as if it was the old NeverwinterNights\NWN directory.
  • Any missing folders, such as erf and texturepacks can be created in the Documents\Neverwinter Nights  folder and will be recognised by EE.

Are my assumptions correct and is there anything else I should be considering to ensure NIT’s compatibility with EE?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

All user files: overrides, patches, mods, inis, custom content etc should be placed in Documents\Neverwinter Nights folder.

BeamdogLibrary, SteamLibrary or other game installation folders should not be touched at all.

Some stuff that should be looked at:
  • path for patch folder is not set in nwn.ini
  • nwnpatch.ini is now userpatch.ini

Many thanks, that is really useful - very much appreciated.

I presume that the Patch path could be added to the INI file and would be recognised by EE - is this correct?
