No there is utility to 2da's but portraits are just a reference to a file, they have no game parameters like placeables or parts, so putting them in a 2da is a limiting factor not an enabling one unlike classes or feats "... and it's inclusion in the toolset depend on it being in the 2da. The portraits race, gender, category..." yes which is how it was written but it does not need to be like that, you can still have naming conventions for the filter but it's all based on file name anyway so the 2da is just an extra step that isn't needed it already happens for PC so give that ability to NPC's in the toolset, I am unclear why you are arguing with me

I'm not arguing. You could do that if you wanted to, It's got nothing to do with beamdogs update to the game. You could do it in excel or in a batch file. I don't think it exists because it's too difficult or impossible to do, no one just ever bothered to do it. I really don't see the point.

It seems to me that mixed in with all the various and sundry fixes and changes people want is an underlying DRM issue, will there be a GOG edition?

This isn't quite as simple as you pretend, Portraits for PC's and NPC's are treated differently by the engine/toolset , there is no reason for this, fixing this in the source should be easy, having to fix it externally should be unnecessary

Blood/Gore - Spell/Effects - But we could really use better visuals on them, Gore is more like a soup with bones and spells are like paint spray

I'm not sure if this is completely up to date, and again don't have a copy of EE to investigate, but the latest upload of custom content seems to imply that Beamdog have replaced the currently identifiable naming convention for all of the 2da with some flat notation that is going to make it extremely awkward to identify what does what for CC users - particularly those with little experience.

Can someone confirm I'm understanding it correctly because if so that's not an improvement, it's a MASSIVE step backward, and we should really be flagging it up loudly.

No. That's an issue with NWNExplorer people are using to look at the NWN EE stuff.  The 2das have not been renamed.

Do you know if that will be a permanant problem with NWN Explorer, and if yes will someone far more knowledgeable than I in the matter be creating an equivalent?

Have they fixed the ending for Hordes of the Underdark where only Aribeth gets destroyed if an Evil-aligned character decides to claim their henchmen’s souls?

The following is mostly wishful thinking, but here goes.

Playing through a campaign after each chapter my character gets exported. While I do rather like this (especially handy when I want to play through one section again to have a character with the right level), there are a lot of the same character entries after playing a campaign.

Instead of throwing my character away after completing the Hordes of the Underdark, could we instead have a "reincarnation" option which allows us to reset the character to a blank slate save for "Soul" feats? (e.g. Deekin would give us "Soul of a Dragon" and give us a favourite class: Red Dragon Disciple to incentivice players to checking out different playstyles.) Perhaps even an idea for exporting to NWN2.

In my personal opinion it never made any sense to give up even a single companion for a temporary boost and it felt rather meaningless.

I am pretty excited about NWN being actively supported again! NWN is the game that got me into modding and also taught me a fair bit about scripting, so I hope Beamdog does a good job and makes a lot of money so they can buy NWN2 and fix that too. :P
 

Anyway, I wanted to second the call for custom ranged weapons and ammo, and I would also like to see better/easier custom animations. Someone else suggested adding OnAttack events for players instead of just PCs and I think that is also a great idea.

Perhaps Beamdog should fix the infamous "Too many instructions" or TMI error, triggered when a script exceeds the instructions max number allowed in a script. Computing power is much much greater now than when Nwn 1 was created. Could we have a higher number of instructions per script ? Please... Even better, a way to user-select the limit triggering the TMI error. The old limit is too easy to reach when using indented loops.

I think they already did this. There is an ini setting iirc. I can review the patch notes for specifics if you need after i get the kiddo in bed.

Wow! Thanks shadguy (and thanks Beamdog). How could I miss that gold nugget ! Talk about reading blindness... This is a great improvement and I know of a few scripts that will benefit.
