Worth getting the Digital Deluxe?

Hey

So I got the standard EE, was wondering should I get the Digital Deluxe as well? (I know, should have done my research before buying). Does the extra modules give something good in terms of extra content, worth paying the 40 bucks for. Thanks!

Well, I haven't checked this with anyone yet, but I would say it is a good investment if the premium modules are finally open to toolset modification. Adding haks to them would easily justify the Digital Deluxe in my opinion.

Most if not all of the custom content for the premium modules was rolled into the 1.69 patch. If you want to have a look at the Pirates of the Sword Coast cc, have a look at this that I uploaded a little while ago. All the 1.67 stuff is in the larger, less downloaded archive.

Err... Well, what I meant is if the premium modules themselves were decrypted to allow them to be edited in the toolset, in order to add haks, change them in the way any other custom module can be edited.

Not sure if it is worth it, but I definitely had to get it and could not wait until the final release. Currently in the downloading and installing process...

Not yet, our web connection is a bit slow, still downloading... but I will check once I have gotten it to run, tomorrow at the latest and then share my personal experience and opninion with the community.

I wanted the deluxe and not just the normal EE not only for extra portraits and music, but also because of the three additional modules. Wanted to get them years ago, but I was late and they were not available anymore. From what I have heard, Infinite Dungeons is not that great, but the other two are not bad at all.

I wonder how it will be... I mean, it is a pre-version and not entirely finished yet.

"Has anyone actually played the EE version? is it actually better?"

I've been testing my mods in it for a few days now. Most of the improvements so far seen to be subtle and performance related. It loads much faster, plays more smoothly with the graphics pegged, and the rendering looks better and cleaner. I think the real difference will come when folks start making and using better content (with high-poly models and high-res textures). The improvements seem to be focused so far on improving what the engine can do, as BD said they would.

As Andarian said, the difference is more sublte. Graphics look slightly different and I can choose 1600 x 900 screen resolution now. I might have imagined it, but music and sounds seem to be of slightly better quality.

The portraits that come with the Digital Deluxe version look nice. The halfling bard or rogue looks really cute.
The soundtracks are mp3 files, bmu files are the same as in 1.69 Still nice to have the soundtrack.

Weird enough, before I set video options to maximum quality I did not notice any improvement concerning speed, but now the game seems to run faster and smoother. Checked the OC and HotU with both versions.
Unfortunately, the toolset does not open or load modules or areas any faster for me, even seems to be a bit slower (opened one of the demo modules for testing). Didn't check scripts yet. Other stuff (Tilesets PLCs, music, sounds, head models) looks the same as in 1.69.

As I have been testing only for an hour or so, I cannot say much more. I didn't have the time yet to check modules with custom content. Might copy over my haks, tlks and stuff tomorrow, then see what happens. Also might try to open a really large module or something with many haks installed to see how long it takes and if I experience any crashes.

Yes, the toolset is included. I think it's a little faster, but I could be imagining it.

I've been testing my mods for several days, and they're about as CC-heavy as they get. Only a couple of very minor issues so far.

Good to know, even if it's 40$ my all in investment for 15 or so years of game is around 200$ seems worth it
