Requires special weapon to hit
Let's say my character manages to give a "mace to the face" to a werewolf. However my mace is regular old iron and werewolves require magic or silver to hit, so my mace officially does no damage. Does my mace just bounce off, do I smash it but it instantly regenerates? Can werewolves fall indefinitely and take no damage since the ground is not silver?

I've mostly seen the rapid-regeneration version portrayed in fiction, where non-silver-based injuries knit themselves over seconds/minutes/hours depending on their severity. I'm down with that. Seems pretty reasonable overall.

if we're talking dnd here, that's wrong. if your blow is strong enough and overcomes the damage reduction of 10/silver, the mace does damage. it's just that your iron weapon mostly leaves scratches - the wound heals extraordinarily fast. a werewolf is a tough beast, and one should only challenge such danger with a silver weapon in hand.
