New here, but not the game!

Hey folks.

I used to be an avid player of this NWN, to the point I joined the online community and was one of the first "certified DMs" for online play. I vaguely remember the whole process, but it was fun. Last week, I saw the silver box for NWM (I guess diamond?) and I picked it up at Half Priced Books.

I was thinking about installing it and running some online games again. I miss having that weekly D&D game using the software, it really brought my D&D games to life.

I was telling my gaming group about it as they saw the game, we play a lot of AD&D 1e and D&D 5e, they seemed super interested.

Now to get the game running on Windows 10. :/

Thanks. I did see that it was coming out, but I am not really interested in spending money right now on a game I already have...

Running and hosting under Windows 10 with no trouble here, even if you do have to watch the firewall after some updates. Shout if you need help. smiley

Welcome to the community! You should be able to run NWN just fine on Windows 10 with all the patches and the critical rebuild. Getting it to run well is another beast, and seems to be a matter of complete luck whether your particular drivers will like NWN or not.

In any case, I hope you didn't spend more than $10 on the Diamond Edition, simply because that's how much it's going for on GOG.com.

I actually made a mistake— it was the platinum edition. It was $5.99 — not sure what the difference between platinum and diamond would be, but I am thinking about just grabbing it for $10 on GOG since I hear it’s easier to install and works better.

The Platinum edition just has fewer bundled premium modules than the diamond edition. That is the version I have, too. The GOG version claims to be already upgraded to 1.69, but it isn't correctly. You have to install the 1.69 critical patch anyway, so it isn't easier after all.

If you are thinking about spending some more money after all, get the EE version and install both versions. Use EE for single-player and EE servers (which will be very few for a while), and use the 1.69 version for 1.69 servers (which is practically all of them at this time). Also, don't install the 1.69 version in Program Files because it modifies files in its own folder.

Ah, well I got the $9 one after finding out that one of the disc had a major scratch on it. I wont bother returning it, I got it from a second hand store, I am sure its a buy too bad policy lol.

Didn't even think about the EE one.. oh well.

I did have a lot of trouble getting the game to run, had no mouse at first, and then it kept crashing...

Not sure what you mean on the 1.69 patch, Its working now, but wonky, in 800x600 mode.
