Neverwinter Nights HD Remake from Beamdog

As the titles says i just came across this today, has anyone heard about this? I guess even some of community member's are involved in its recreation process so it sounds like a win!

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2017/11/20/beamdog-announces-neverwinter-nights-enhanced-edition-for-pc.aspx

Edit: So i did this on another forum and just to keep up with consistancy i will post just some of the FAQ on here for people to look before posting

https://www.beamdog.com/nwn_faq#01

This is an abridged version of the questions, so if you want to know more go to the link.

Will the server browser work again?
Yes!

How does the Community Patch (CPP) fit into this? (also known as CPP or 1.71)
We have been working very closely with Shadooow to incorporate portions of the Community Patch into the game.

Will I retain ownership of the premium modules I purchased from BioWare?
Yes!

Will 1.69 clients be able to connect to NWN:EE servers?
No

What languages will NWN:EE be released in?
English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Polish. Italian and Spanish localizations are both text-only.

Will NWN:EE work on macOS or Linux?
Yes. And for both.

Is NWN:EE DRM free?
Multiplayer will require a unique CD-Key, just like it did in the good ol-day's.

Will Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition run on old systems, like Windows XP and Windows Vista? What about nwserver.exe?
These are my words on it: Windows 7 and up only it seems... Im sure someone in the community will find a work-around for it.

Will Beamdog provide ongoing server system support for Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition like BioWare did for the original game?
Yes!

=========================================================================================================

Question's that got answered on the livestream

Will Beamdog make a nwn2 EE?

At this time, no. The dev's there said it was becaues its Obsidian who would have to make that decision not them

Will beamdog take user suggestion's?

YES! right now beamdog is looking for us the community to REACH OUT TO THEM. If we want changes done we could let them know

Petition for cross compatibility between E.E and 1.69

There is also a petition going out right now for a cross compatibility between nwn1:EE & 1.69, which i don't see that happening since they plan to push the 1.71 unofficial patch. You can however still look into that here:

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/66979/essential-feature-either-ee-able-to-connect-to-1-69-servers-or-1-69-able-to-connect-to-ee-servers/p1?new=1

Already posted. :) Trent Oster announced it on the NWN FB page a few hours ago.

https://neverwintervault.org/forums/neverwinter-nights-1/players-corner-...

I haven't heard anything from other community members about involvement in this, but then I'm sure they would have been under NDA until the announcement.

Yeah, there's got to be people here under NDA, from gameinformer:

"Original developers have teamed with key members of the Neverwinter Nights community to curate important fan-requested improvements to support players, storytellers, and modders."

though it's hardly a surprise they are doing an enhanced edition since BG1/2 enhanced apparently sold well, and I'm hardly suprised they are reaching out to the community either. Here's hoping for multi-core support and 64 bitness.

my only question is the elusive release date, the video they put up says "comming soon" but the article says theres no release date but taking pre orders. I'm going to guess either sometime next year or later.

I hope they do a NWN2: Enhanced Edition after, maybe the game from 2006 will no longer cause my 2011 and 2017 machines to be able to cook an egg.

People, I was checking the release notes and I missed something... Do you think its necessary to do an improvement in Parry feat?

In NWN1 all combat modes suck equally, since they are automatically cancelled on movement.

In NWN2 they got them right by making them proper toggles. That's probably something that they should do for this enhanced edition.

Also, they should really make the hardcoded abilities (*cough* Defensive Stance *cough*) not hardcoded...

From what I've seen on their site - it's graphics improvements mostly. While it's great to play NWN on modern hardware without any issues, I'd vastly prefer some changes to game mechanics - like changes in control over the henchmen or in combat modes. Personally I'm not anxious to buy the game once again for graphic and "compatibility" with new hardware and OS.

Just an FYI for people asking them to do a nwn2 remake, it wont happen (at least not anytime soon) i watched the livestream and the question was brought up multiple times.

Beamdog is only going to work on nwn1 since its team consists of ex-bioware staff, nwn2 was made by Obision not Bioware, and it seems Obsidian is not intrested in a remake at this time either.

I wouldn't think they'd even work on a nwn2 ee before seeing how the nwn1 re does. I hope nwn1ee does well and I will be buying it to play nwn1 with. /and I say that as a nwn2 modder

I've been checking out the EE headstart for a couple of hours, and while there's nothing earth-shaking in it yet, it hasn't broken anything in my Diamond Edition built module either. The post processing effects aren't realy that great IMO, but I see a lot of potential. It's definitely encouraging news for revitalizing the player base anyway.

Personally as excited as I was to hear of NWN EE... just learning about it not being able to have Diamond Edition 1.69 Clients connect to it, kinda sucks.(I got alot of friends that would have to rebuy the game, unless of course I just stayed on the old client.)  I would imagine that has something to do with the complete rebuild of the multiplayer function in NWN EE since the old gamespy stuff got torn down years ago.  I own 6 copies of Diamond, lol, one still sealed.  Kinda frustrating, oh well I guess we will see what improvements they make, and as always, "work" with them.

Just heard about this. Would love to see an improvement in the "modibility" of a few things like the hardcoded abilities, so to speak. Or additional slots for custom animations so you don't have to rely on switching phenotypes so often, but that'd probably break too many things for backwards compability. Still excited though.

I'm hearing alot of mixed opinions about this, and i dont want to sound optimisic here but the game *is* in early BETA so im not expecting anything substantial just yet. So far the biggest flop is making E.E work with 1.69 any thoughts on that?

I'm not sure I follow.

The Enhanced Edition will be able to connect or load any 1.69 server or module.

If the PW or module updates to the Enhanced Edition (1.74), then yes, players will be required to update.

That's how it worked with Bioware patches. I don't understand why after 15 years, people would expect this to be any different.

Want to play on a server or a module saved with Enhanced Edition, upgrade.

The Bioware patches didn't cost money. NWN EE does. That is what is diferent.

I intend to buiy it, but there will be some players who will not want to spend the money.
