Welcome to the Adventurer's Club! The AC works like a bookclub, but instead is focused on modules for Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2. Here's how it works: we solicit nominations for modules to play. We vote. And then we all play the module and have a semi-directed discussion about it in this forum. The goal is to build community, draw some attention to deserving projects, and provide some good feedback to builders.
Here are the rules:
1) Anyone can nominate a module, including that module's builder. Each person can nominate one module for NWN1 and one for NWN2 during each cycle.
2) Single player-accessible modules only, please. No persistent worlds.
3) Once a module has been selected for the adventurer's club, it will not be eligible for being selected again for at least six months (and perhaps longer, pending discussion).
4) When you submit a module, please use the following form:
Game: (NWN1 or NWN2)
Module Name (and author):
Neverwinter Vault Link:
Character starting level, requirements & info:
Estimated hours of play (if available):
Why submitted: (a few words on why you think it should be played)
After a designated nomination period, we will hold a vote. Once the vote is in, we'll pick a deadline, play the module, and meet back here to post in a new thread for that module! Deadlines for the nomination period, voting period, and the discussion start date will be posted at the top of this post.
That's it! Let's hear those nominations!
List of nominated modules:
Edit by: Berliad to add Jezla9 and colorsfades' nominations. I seem to have accidentally "stolen" authorship of this post, sorry! I don't know what I'm doing. -B
Edit: No worries B., it's okay. -Wx
1. Fairy Tale by jackkel dragon
2. http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/fairy-tale-nwn1-module
3. Level 5 (but characters will be raised to level 5 if they are lower)
4. Unknown, but description says short
5. Because this module was designed to poke fun at some common fantasy tropes, and to examine whether we should spend time reading stories (or playing games) this might be a good one to get our questioning minds working.
Since we've already gotten two NWN1 mods in, here's a NWN2 nomination:
Game: NWN2
Module Name & Author: The Gathering Storm by PJ156 and M Rieder.
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/gathering-storm
Character starting level & info: Level 1, no restrictions.
Estimated hours of play (if available): 3-5 hours
Why submitted: I've enjoyed PJ156 module series, Tales from the Lake of Sorrows. This module has gotten good feedback and is a self-contained story, despite being the first part of a project that never worked out. It looks like a good, short and sweet module from an active author in our community.
1. Silverlake by xax
2. http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/silverlake
3. It's a solo module for characters starting at Level 1 for any class/alignment. Evil will be unable to do one quest.
4. Unknown.
5. I decided to nominate this because there's a playtest and feedback request by the module's author (who has an account here) on the module's page.
Game: NWN2
Module Name & Author: Humble Beginnings by Jezla9
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/humble-beginnings
Character starting level & info: Starting Level 1, ending Level 3-4
Estimated hours of play (if available): ~10 minutes
Why submitted: Short, with little to no combat, this module is the first in a series that is meant to be played with other adventures interspersed to bring you up to the correct level.
I was going to post some NWN2 modules last night, but I needed to get to bed, I have stuff to do today that I didn't want to be late for.
I've actually playtested this module myself. I've only played a tiny slice of this module so far, since I was getting very granular in my playtesting feedback. The author's very good about accepting feedback, so this is a really good one to get folks in the habit of leaving detailed feedback :)
I started the playtest as well and finished due to game-breaking bug. Probably fixed already.
SPOILER
The clan of werewolves jumped on me before I left the town. I dispatched them with lot of running and resting and it turned out they were the main villains.. So I played maybe half of the module. I think that author fixed it as I reported it a long time ago and there were a couple updates since then.
SPOILER END
Ok, decided that the second post will be for the list of nominated modules and since that post is mine I'm moving my nomination here:
Game: NWN1
1. ILL Met in Lankhmar by Udasu
2. http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/ill-met-lankhmar
3. Pregenerated Fafhrd character fighter1/rogue1
4. About 1 hour
5. Module by Udasu, storydriven, loosely based around Fritz Leiber's epic heroes, Fafhrd and the Gray Mouse. Short for starters to try out how to orient our adventruing gears in this club.
If I may, since my first mod has been nominated...
1. NWN2
2. Lowena by Jezla9
3. http://neverwintervault.net/project/nwn2/module/lowena
4. Level 5 (new characters will be leveled up on entry)
5. 1 hour
6. It has the same virtues as Humble Beginnings for being short with largely optional combat. Despite the length, it has four possible endings, some use for skills, and is (if I may say so) very polished.
I would add, that if you pick either of my mods, please take the time to comment on them and vote, as I appreciate feedback!
Thanks for the nomination! If one of your modules is selected, we would love for you to join in our discussion! Some of the best book club discussions I've been involved in have included the book author, who often can shed a lot of behind-the-scenes insights into how parts of their book developed, their changing views on characters, etc.
(and, of course, we'd love for you to participate even if it is not your module!)
What Berlaid said! The more the merrier!
Happy to contribute, though I'm not sure how much insight I can give on a ten-minute module!
Sounds like a fun club! If I wasn't busy building, I'd definitely be joining you.
I will humbly submit my prologue for consideration:
Game: NWN2
Module Name: The Darkening Sky Prologue
Author: ColorsFade
Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/darkening-sky-prologue
Nexus Link: http://www.nexusmods.com/neverwinter2/mods/878/?
Character Starting Requirements & Info: Level 1. Any class you want to play. You should reach level 4/5 by the end. See the readme for more details.
Estimated Hours of Play: 4+
Why Submitted: The more feedback the better, as I am actively working on the remaining Chapters of the campaign. I'm happy to contribute to any discussions and answer any questions. So far, it has received good feedback and I've been pleased with the parts people have liked.
Note: I've had one user have a problem with corrupted files from the Vault link, hence why I have added the Nexus link.
Thanks! As mentioned above, if your module is selected (or even if it isn't!), we'd be very happy for you to join the discussion!
August 2014 Polls have been posted, which means 2nd tour of nominations are now open!
Hello all,
I think I will join you if that is okay. I am building at the moment but it would be good to have something like this to keep me out of the toolset all the time.
I would be honoured if you played one of my mods at some point but I like Lowena so that's where my vote goes this cycle.
PJ
Welcome PJ! We're definitely open to everyone. Very happy to have your voice around here!
Thanks, when will we know what were playing?
PJ
Made the polls to last a week. One module from NWN1 and one from NWN2
You can nominate Your own module and next month it will be put in the poll.
Thanks, I can't play nwn1 right now. I will stick to nwn2 for the moment.
PJ
Game: NWN1
Module Name (and author): Arctacia Adventures Trilogy by Arctacia
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/arctacia-adventures-trilogy
Character starting level, requirements & info: pregenerated Suge Zerdolux character
Estimated hours of play (if available): 8-10 hours
Why submitted: adventure concentrating on puzzles, inspired by crypt of riddles.
Game: NWN1
Module Name (and author): Wyvern Crown of Cormyr
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/bioware-premium-modules
Character starting level, requirements & info: Recommended Starting Level is 6-7, and the module will pre-level you to 6 if you are not already at this level. You will need a character with the heavy armor proficiency because I really don't know what will happen if you reach the jousting part and cannot wear heavy armor. (If you want to play something like wizard, I highly recommend pre-making your character elsewhere at a slightly higher starting level and taking a single level in fighter for the heavy armor proficiency.)
Estimated hours of play (if available):
Why submitted: Law #5: Harming cats is forbidden. If that isn't reason enough to play a module, this is the former premium module that is full of all sorts of paladin things like tournaments, jousting, knighthood and riding around on a horse... but actually playing a paladin is not required.
Forgive me, I haven't kept current on this, and I'm not clear from the discussion on that page: do you need to have purchased this module to play it (legally, or otherwise?)? I did buy it back in the day, but I'm not sure if I have confirmation of that anymore--it was 2 or 3 computers ago. :)
All the premium modules can be played regardless of regardless of if your ownership of them is lawful or chaotic (haha!) Regardless of which category you fall into, you still do need Internet access for the download only ones. It will do a one second check, fail and let you play. (If you have the Kingmaker disc, the modules on it will not require Internet access to play if you install from the disc.)
Chiming in to confirm here, yes, Bioware/EA essentially freewared the premiums with their new auto-auth process, which is wonderful, because I never got to play through WCoC, since we never purchased a copy for me, and it didn't feel right booting my hubby off his computer to play it. Now I think I'll wait to see if it gets selected as an AC module before playing :)
Ok, thanks. I just wanted to make sure we were above-board here.
I just realized that I actually wrote the ign vault review guild's take on this module in 2006. I remember a few parts of it, but it's obviously been a while since I've played it. I remember that it was fun, and so I'll certainly play it again if it is selected. :)
Game: NWN2
Module Name (and author): Ravenloft: Dreamscape
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/ravenloft-dreamscape
Character starting level, requirements & info: Recommended starting level is 10-12. (Berlaid made a character trainer that can level up and while the module will do this too, I have always felt that it better to go into modules with level-appropriate equipment also, which I do not know if this module will give or not... especially since Ravenloft is not known for being a friendly place.)
Estimated hours of play (if available): Unknown.
Why submitted: It's been years since I had NWN2 installed, but something about this module makes me want to play it... maybe it's all those screen shots with the gloomy atmosphere and mist practically everywhere... or seeing Strahd's name in one of the screen shots... or because Ravenloft means Sachie gets to slay lots and lots of undead... or that the module threatens that it will let you bite off more than you can handle because Ravenloft isn't all that friendly.... or that there's multiple endings.
Game: NWN2
Module Name (and author): sarmates Claudius33
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/sarmates
Character starting level, requirements & info: Starter I think though level happens quickly early. Ends at 16 - 18. Sound like it might be a bit rude in places (adult content).
Estimated hours of play (if available): Unknown.
Why submitted: I have been wanting to have a go at this one for a while but never made myself put the tools down long enought to play it. It never came up on the Ame so the impetus has not been there.
September Polls posted. Sorry for the delay I was away on holidays :C
http://neverwintervault.org/content/adventurers-club-september-2014-modu...
http://neverwintervault.org/content/adventurers-club-september-2014-modu...
..and of course I encourage you to give us more nominations!
Thanks PJ. Sarmates! is about 34 (thirty four) hours of play.
Game: NWN1
Module Name (and author): Bloodsport of the Gods byDoug 'Derelict' Wetzel
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/bloodsport-gods
Character starting level, requirements & info: 1st (delevels and item stripper!!!)
Estimated hours of play (if available): 8 hours
Why submitted: For a change in pace I present you this epic module that should take you to level 30. Unfortunately it was supposed to be all the way to 40 :/ Maybe if there is enough interest someone will make it to 40, maybe even the author will be back? Who knows.
I would like to nominate one of my modules but for a different reason to other nominations as explained later.
Game: (NWN1 or NWN2) NWN1
Module Name (and author): "A is for Adventure 0" by me
Neverwinter Vault Link: Right here
Character starting level, requirements & info: New build, no other requirements
Estimated hours of play (if available): 20 minutes to 1 hour
Why submitted: First I would like something you virtually never get on here - feedback. The other reason is that I would be genuinely be interested to hear where the people in this club would take this in future modules (OK I've dried and got side-tracked with custom content)
TR
I'd like to nominate:
Game: NWN1
Module Name (and author): Small Village Woes by BortSonofBort
Neverwinter Vault Link: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/small-village-woes
Character starting level, requirements & info: Designed for level 1. Weaker levels get a bump automagically at the module's start. Skills that could be used include: Appraise, Buff, Craft Armor, Craft Trap, Craft Weapon, Lore, Perform, Persuade, Use Magic Device.
Estimated hours of play (if available): 5-7
Why submitted: This is an early Hall of Fame module that was recently revised, polished, and updated by the author. I played a beta, but it has been updated since then. I think it's a really fun little adventure module with a nice mix of whimsy, horror, and a little bit of depth as well. I think it would make for a great discussion piece.
