Oh I see. The adultery and cuckolding are seperate. I made the wrong assumption that you'd need to be unfaithful to get the cuckold option.
No, you can make the choice independently.
By the way, you should reply to a post by using the reply button below the post so that your reply is linked to the corresponding post.
The general reply button at the top of the page opens a new thread each time.
Tanaka needs to be gone when the PC return from Betancuria the second time. (I take it he is the same person as in ADWR1?)
I also had some background lore in mind for the setting (which is the easiest to create), the Dhorn in particular, is there any canon or objection to the origins of the current Emperor Dhorn's bloodline and how their empire's culture became as it is?
Why does Tanaka need to be gone when the PC returns from Betancuria the second time?
Tanaka is just there to deliver Hattori's message.
He isn't a character from ADWR1.
Yeah, I mixed up Taka and Tanaka. Hatori's helper as opposed to Hattori's helper.
I actually thought they were the same wise rogue-figure you meet in both cities.
So, which one should not be there anymore in your opinion?
Taka in Betancuria or Tanaka in Khondir?
PS: You should use the Reply button right under the post to reply to a previous post so that the tree is linked together. That's different from the old vault.
No, I meant to say that I was wrong. I do not believe Taka is part of the story after the events which would make it impossible for him to be there. (End ADWR without giving away too much for those who might not have played it and wish to.)
I don't want to end it on this note, it's one thing to be wrong but I don't like not being helpful.
There is another matter I remembered which you may agree on is a little bit strange. When you speak to Hartley before embarking on your second trip to Betancuria he mentions that Kate cannot come with you as it would put her in harm's way. Fair enough, but if the PC has Taris with him that makes thing a little bit weirder. Needless to say, Kate is much more of a badass as a veteran/retired member of the Khondir army than Taris yet Hartley has no qualms about putting the girl at risk. (He sounds a bit like an ass if you look at it like that.)
Instead of saying that Kate cannot come because it is too dangerous, I would instead suggest that she cannot come because she works at a large, public institution and her absence would garner too much attention.
<LastName>, I don't think that would be wise. Think about it. Your wife is a teacher at a large school, her absence would raise a lot of suspicion. I am afraid she can't go with you.
I don't believe this was mentioned, but when you return with Imoen from Betancuria and you ask her what she's doing she keeps saying "I am packing. And so should you be.".
I must admit that it took me a while to figure out you had a special editor built, even after getting started is a bit tricky for me as I can only seem to open the gui and when I try to open a file with it it cannot find them.* However, I still have a little story (description) written in NWN-style for an existing placeable pertaining the Dhorn if you're interested.
*I'll put what I did here. I may have done something very silly.
BASE_PATH: C:\NeverwinterNights\auroraext_2014-04-30
NWN_PATH: C:\NeverwinterNights
> Instead of saying that Kate cannot come because it is too dangerous, I would instead suggest that she cannot come because she works at a large, public institution and her absence would garner too much attention.
Fully agreed. That is much better.
> <LastName>, I don't think that would be wise. Think about it. Your wife is a teacher at a large school, her absence would raise a lot of suspicion. I am afraid she can't go with you.
DONE.
> I don't believe this was mentioned, but when you return with Imoen from Betancuria and you ask her what she's doing she keeps saying "I am packing. And so should you be.".
FIXED. The qfs state wasn't set to finished when leaving for Delberg.
> BASE_PATH: C:\NeverwinterNights\auroraext_2014-04-30
> NWN_PATH: C:\NeverwinterNights
There is a new version of the AuroraExt Editor at here.
NWN_PATH should point to the directory where the nwnmain.exe is located. For me this is C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN
BASE_PATH should point to the project directory directory. If you download the _src.zip bundle from the Developer Zone it contains a BASE directory - that's ist. E.g. C:\a_dance_with_spies_v109_beta_2014-11-08_src\BASE
Also, you'll need Java 8 installed.
Then you launch auroraext_2014-11-09\watcher.bat
There seems to be a bug in NWN on some video cards:
Sometimes body parts (e.g. torso, head, legs, ...) of NPCs would become invisible completely while others are still visible (pelvis, boots).
Has anyone noticed this and under which conditions?
I had that on another machine too.
Mainly in the Cult Site Main.
Sometimes you would only see boots and pelvis moving.
Somehow the other body parts become invisible and only (some) clothing parts are drawn.
That's definitely a bug in NWN.
I managed to mitigate it to a point by scripting them to undress and redress, but that does not always work.
An area transition might fix it in most cases.
However, if the scene is scripted by a script that is executed on entry, the bug will probably re-appear again.
After you get knocked out and the cutscene with Vico, Nathan and Imoen in the sewers ends, you get teleported to your BET home bed and Imoen is in your party and Taris is standing near you. My question is: Is there meant to be a conversation that triggers here? None have done so before. It just seems like a good opportunity for Imoen to catch the PC up on what happened when he was unconscious. And with the way Taris and Imoen is standing next to him, maybe there is a conversation but it's just not triggering.
Yes, there is the beta_awake conversation to be played.
Odd thing that it didn't trigger.
Does this reoccur when you load and replay it?
Try out dm_runscript beta_cs_fam_end
or use the Debug Stone > Quests > Family Affairs > wake up
I've modified it a little to make it more stable.
Had a save near there and went through the cutscene four times. The first time it didn't trigger and on the next three the conversation triggered. Not really sure what was causing it not to trigger on those two times, but it seemed to have sort it self out.
In one of the Lisa and Kate's eavesdrop talks, Imoen, Sharna and Taris comes back from the docks and talks about their little game with the sailors and pretty much hinted that Taris was doing the same. Nothing wrong with that, I just thought it was a little out of character for Taris. She's always seemed the naive and innocent type to me, and would only do such things if the PC asked her to, because she loved him.
Maybe I interpreted it wrong when she said something like: "I don't count things like that" when asked by Imoen, I think, how many sailors she got. If it was intented: that's cool too. It's your character.
Also, I've fooled around with the toolset for years now, never really completed anything though. Let's say if I wanted to add a few quests, conversations and areas to your game, how would I got about sending it to you to see if it's acceptable? Do I send the whole modified mod file or something else? Just curious, I was interested to begin with just adding a few companion replies for Taris in conversations. Sticking to the character you created, of course.
FIXED. I've conditionalized that scene so that Taris will only be whoring if the PC has whored her out before. Otherwise she'll just arrive from grocery shopping.
Decision points to turn Taris into a whore are: the warehouse (Amusement for the orcs), Frendricks tavern (Arrest Trent), The Gladiators (Beta), Betancuria harbor.
Even when Taris is whoring herself / or is whored out she would be shy about it.
Much unlike Imoen and Sharna.
I would be happy if you added content.
If it's just dialogs, send me your edited .dlgsrc files. Preferably only the files you touched and preferably always modify the latest version available from the downloads (this makes merging easier). No need to point out the changes within the file because I'll merge them using WinMerge.
You can write comments (# comment) into the files if you want to notify me about something special.
There have not been code or module contributions so far. But then just send me your modified .nss files.
Merging area changes is very difficult. I'm not sure how to do that. But that's probably a long way off.
Sounds good. I'll just modify the .dlgsrc files then.
One more question: Is there a trigger on whether Taris gets pregnant? Say like the basement? In the newer versions, and after you find out she's pregnant, she says she's to ill in BET when you ask her to join your party. Just wondering if it's worth adding Companion replies in BET, and if she always gets pregnant there doesn't seem much point.
Right now she's automatically pregnant when she goes to Betancuria.
There's only a trigger on the scene where she confesses.
In a more diverse situation her pregnancy would depend on the PC's choices:
ADWS 109 is going Pre-Release
Since testing is more or less finished, I decided to put the V109 pre-release out on the project main page.
Pre-Release means that testing is finished and everything should be stable. If there are no serious bugs found this will
become the stable release.
Thanks everyone for testing and developing.
ADWS 109 is going Stable
Since no further bugs have been reported vor V109 Pre-Release, it uploaded it as stable.
First of all, thanks prwo and the site admin's for helping me get logged in. Don't know why initally I wasn't able to get the approved message. Tho the 2nd go around it looked like the message went into my SPAM folder for whatever reason. Anyway, thanks again, all!
I did play through it awhile back as the loyal hubby (as in I was devoted to Kate and didn't cheat on her). And Prwo has taken care of the bugs that I found anyway a couple of versions ago. So other than those I had a bug free existance on that playthrough. The next several days I have some time, so I will play it through again, this time I will cheat on Kate and see what happens. Will report any bugs I get from that playthrough.
I don't remember off hand what you all had in your checklist to do. And I know I mentioned a couple of these in the email(s) to you, but thought I would go ahead and post these thoughts here. I agreed with a poster while back that I thought it would be good to have Lisa as a tenant. I realize space might be an issue, but I think it would add some more spice to things. I often felt there were times that Imoen and/or Sharna could make a play for her.
And I thought too there should be a boy (or a girl?) who would want to have Kate. Perhaps not from the boy who locked her in that room at school. But maybe someone else in her classroom who really has the hots for her. And takes her when she is most vulnerable (like when the PC is away on his one of his missions). Then the PC would have to look for her. Just a thought.
Anyway, thanks again for such a wonderful job with this module. Each time I play it, it gets better and better. I look forward to each and every new alpha/beta version.
Lisa as a tenant (in the neighboring flat) is a possible option, but way back in the project backlog.
Given Lisa's messed up marriage, she's the one who'd willingly fall victim to their persuations. Lisa is the sort of character who would go along with all sorts of things as long as someone (Kate, Imoen, ...) leads her to.
Interesting. M. had pretty much the same idea.
A girl, let's call her Jane, who has a crush on Kate, can't handle the rejection well threatens Kate.
Most impressive, I'm pretty far in this version(act 5) and I've yet to run into a bug. Its great when such a high quility mod becomes even better. A more meaningful relationship with Kate over which the player got some effect this time is really nice as she was basically not just a sex partner for the PC but also a good friend who deeply cares.
Maybe I'm getting a bit ahead but I'm really looking forward to Taris romance. It would be cool if there were diverse options like managing to have a bad, normal and happy end with her when it comes to romance depending how the player handles it. Possibly also influencing the girl's attitude towards sex and relationships in general as I noted a few posts before that she only whores herself if she did the deed with the PC. Still, since she is unique in that she is the least sex starved chick that lives with the PC it is nice that even then she does not become completely alike Imoen for exmple.
Kinda hoping that maybe this release will add maybe one romance talk with her or maybe a preview of what may come in the next version but I guess I have to be patient.
After that I wonder if there are any plans to add maybe some extra sidequests? Since the plot seems to be resolved it would be nice if we saw maybe a few characters maybe a bit fleshed out with some extra encounters in the PC house which do not have necessarily to be all sexual...
This release doesn't contain much changes for Taris, but TroubleAbroad has started working on her too.
Maybe you could exchange some ideas.
What I am planning for next release is giving the story a dramaturgic peak.
Oh that is nice, more Taris romance fans^^
So you think the next release might include some content for her too(if you and TroubleAbroad manage to finish your set goals for next version) along with this dramaturgic stuff?
Hmmm, looking forward to it in any case. Is what you are planning something more along of expanding quests or rather expanding the personality of particular characters and potentially putting them at difficult situations? Guess one could work with another though expanding roleplaying options in conversations leading to more dramatic stuff than what we have currently could be interesting too.
I haven't made up my mind what will be in the next release yet. I certainly want to do something with the plot finale.
I've finished playing the latest version, and here are the bugs that I encountered:
- During the first dream sequence when the PC was in Betancuria as a Dhorn Lord, there were two Kates. I think I've said this one before in the previous version.
- 6 am, when the PC was about to leave the flat, he encountered the boy that Kate hated. When the PC entered the flat with the boy, Kate was there in armor, but the event ended prematurely, and that event was never triggered again.
- 6 am, when the PC entered Temple of Oi, he met Melissa, and the conversation ended prematurely, and was never triggered again.
> - During the first dream sequence when the PC was in Betancuria as a Dhorn Lord, there were two Kates. I think I've said this one before in the previous version.
FIXED. I've already applied a fix once, but obviously it didn't cover all cases.
I cannot reproduce the premature endings of the dialogs you mentioned.
When does the dialog break? Do you see the first PC line or don't you see any dialog at all?
Try reloading and see if you can reproduce it.
I have come across a problem I've never experienced before.
I've been playing it this time as being unfaithful to Kate, being cold to her and not really having relations with her and such. When it came to the Sharna-Kate scene, I went to bed with Kate and again was rather cold to her. I thought soon after though there would be a Sharna's Sweetheart mission to fire up. But I can't get it to start. I've done all the possible missions to this point. I've been trying to get the sequence where Kate tells me that Sharna was kicked out of school, but can't get that one to fire up. Even advanced the time past sunset several times and still nothing.
The only thing I have gotten after the initial Kate/Sharna scene is Sharna asking about wearing clothes or not. And that is basically it. Can't get Sharna's Sweethart to start. Don't know what I did or didn't do for it not to begin for me. After all the times playing this mod, this has never happened. Hmm.
Is there something possibly I forgot? Or can I just trigger it manually via the DM Debug commands?
Thanks!
That is a bug in the "cold relationship" path.
Sharna needs to be home and in school. Then, when you have sex with Kate and it is disturbed by Sharna, a flag is set. You need this flag set for Sharna to get thrown out of school. Only after she's thrown out she can date Imoen.
If you are cold to Kate, you won't have sex with her and so you can't get the flag set.
FIXED. I've added another path that if your relationship is low you will get disturbed by Sharna in another way (no sex) and get the flag set.
As a workaround, you can call dm_runscript flat_bed_set_ksd
Thanks for the quick fix/reply!
Yeah, I thought it was strange when after the initial Sharna/Kate scene, the next day I would talk to Kate in the "What do you think about....Sharna" and she would say something like, "Oh that thing at the school just didn't work out, so I got her a job at the library" when I never experienced that Sharna getting thrown out of school scene beforehand.
Will go ahead and run that script and see if that lets me go forward now.
Thanks again!
> [...] and she would say something like, "Oh that thing at the school just didn't work out, so I got her a job at the library" when I never experienced that Sharna getting thrown out of school scene beforehand.
FIXED. That was another bug. Now it should reflect the state correctly.
After you gave me that workaround, had no further issues with the game. I did have the two Kates thing in the initial dream sequence between her and Lisa, but I'm sure I was playing a prior version before you fixed it.
Have you uploaded the recent fixes yet? If not, I will wait until you do so and then play it through once more.
I have just uploaded a new pre-release version.
It should contain all fixes so far.
Just finished 1.9, it was fun and well done. Any plans for a sequel?
I've started working on 1.10 now.
Yes, I've been thinking about a sequel. It would continue after ADWS, which will be shaped in 1.10 more clearly, and the main PC would be Kate.
But other than ideas there is nothing concrete - neither how nor when.
I'd really look forward to the idea of Kate being the main PC in the sequel.
Kate as the PC? Excellent idea!
Sounds awesome - I'd look forward to playing that sequel!
Thanks for the good news :)
Well, in my opinion it doesn't sound awesome. A Dance with Spies is one of rare adult modules for male players. There's plenty of high quality modules for female PCs already, leaving at least ADWS for males wouldn't be a crime.Another thing is that I rather don't like Kate much and honestly wouldn't be glad to play as her. It's just my opnion, that there are plenty of modules for female PCs already, and that a sequel to ADWS should be made again for male characters.
So,if it comes to the sequel, I'm not looking forward to Kate as main heroin, rather to playing as the hero from first ADWS, cause writing and roleplaying possibilities allowed me to create a character of whom I cared during playing and I'd like to see what new adventures could happen to him.
But about the current module and a next update, I'd like to present few things which I think, could be added to new version.
- Possibilty to divorce with Kate. As this module allows a player to roleplay, there should be an option when a PC can end his marriage. I don't think about throwing Kate out of home or something like that, rather about possibilty to divorce in a peaceful way with her. My PC enjoys much more the company of Taris, so he should be able to free from the marriage and be able to focus on the relationship with Taris (or another NPC).
- I think someone said something like it already here, that Taris' pregnancy should depend on few things. If a player doesn't "whore" her, she shouldn't get knocked up. If player uses her in that way, or sleeps with her, there should be a possibilty that she gets pregnant.
- Adding new main quests, which would let the adventure go on further. I don't mean adding new ones in between existing main quests, but rather quests starting after last story event which we had in the last version.
That would be all, for now the module is really in high quality, fits perfectly into events of ADWR, allowing the player to see some events from a different view, and these few wishes are the only things which the module lacks at the moment in my opinion.
Thanks for your great work, and possibilty to (role)play this excellent and mature module and good luck in improving it and acomplishing your other plans :)
Once again, good luck to you :)
I really haven't give the sequel much thought yet. I have no plans on making one yet since there is so much to do for ADWS.
In any case, Kate's sequel would be differnt from ADWS since she is a fighter and not a rogue.
I figured that like in a series it would be interesting to develop each character's (background)story from a different point of view.
Kate's could also be a prequel describing her youth or perhaps a sequel after the events of ADWS, which would be the war against Dhorn.
Of course with a lot of intertwines with the ADWS story.
Just like the ADWS PC touches story arcs of the ADWR Princess.
About the divorce: That would make sense in terms of the Taris relationshiop.
By the way, the PC can't throw Kate out because it's her who owns the flat.
About Taris' pregnancy: Correct. Should depend on Taris' development. If she's whoring around she'd get pregnant, father unknown. In a relationship she should get pregnant by the PC.
About new quests: V110 extends the main story.
Arbini, i'm glad i'm not the only one who never liked Kate and went for Taris instead. Theres is really should be a divorce option and more Taris related content :)
..
I kinda gree with Arbini. There are plenty of mods for female PCs but very few for males.
If a sequel happens how about giving Kate the role of deuteragonist letting the Player control her at specific moments aside from the male main character so that we can see her perspective more and possibly leading to different endings based on BOTH the PC and Kate actions? Just Kate alone looks sorta...meh IMO.
Though I still see plenty of potential in this version. Expanding quests, adding a relationship witn Taris and maybe with another girl/s as well, more endings based on actions, giving characters specific quests to develop them further, give stats like INT and CHA a bigger role for more dialogue options leading to new stuff, etc.
Yes. that's the point :) I completely agree that switching between characters (Kate and PC) to see the events from a different perspective in specific moments is a brilliant idea. Something like this would make there story even more interesting, cause a player would be responsible for actions of two persons which makes the consequenses of made decisions more complex and less predictable. I rather don't like the idea of playing as Kate all the time too (which I expressed in my previous post), but switching to her in specific moments I find as a really enhancing feature to the possible sequel.
I can see certain difficulties with "switching PCs". I coul be done either by making 2 playthroughs or if you make the characters share classes and XP (alternative: level-up every time they switch), possibly sharing inventory (it would just be easier, but still can be done with scripting to not share inventory) and only altering in appearence and portrait.
On the other hand if Kate and PC had a third companion... like a dog - dog could be PC with either Kate or PC (from part 1) as hirelings.
I experimented on switching the PCs appearance/gender a year ago... it is possible but only with a hack module (I think it was called NWNx or something like that).
Unfortunately the NWN engine itself doesn't really provide for that. Does anyone have the source code? :)
I think PC switching could be done by creating a multiplayer mod. First you Play with Alan. At a given point you leave and re-enter with Kate. Then you leave again etc.
Game variables etc. describing the internal state and progress can be stored in module variables.
This is how the original campaign transports choices from one chapter to another.
One could simply enter the same module again.
That's what I had in mind for some of the side quests. Actually I wanted Imoen to be playable for some thieving and sneaking.
Like in the game Demon Stone, where you actually have three characters to play and they take turns in solving the puzzles.
Unfortunately the game engine is pretty clumsy for that. But it's definitely an interesting concept.
Like this: You play the game with a male character and then you replay the whole game with Kate again. You experience some of the scenes yourself (with Kate) that are just eavesdropped otherwise.
Maybe some choices the PC made in the male run have influcence on the possibilities you have in the Kate run.
I must agree with some of you. I think Kate is such a great character, but I'm not that enthusiastic having her as the main female PC. If one day there will be a sequel, I want it like A Dance With Rogues. We continue the journey of the main male PC that we get to know in this module. True, there are already great female adult mods out there like A Dance With Rogues, Gladiatrix, or Demonheart, but very few for male. Only one I think. Wink and Kiss, the male version. But it ended after the first module. The creator is developing a sequel, focusing on the female PC. See what I mean?
So, for me, A Dance With Spies stands out because it is unique. And please don't ever change that. I know that you love Imoen so much, but she never become my favorite henchman, unlike Taris or Sharna.
There are still so much you can do with this module. Kane, Bull, and Taris still haven't got their relationships explored that far with the male PC, right? And yes, I agree. Don't add the sub quest in the beginning of the module, because I think they are too crowded now. You may add them after the Betancuria, during the Betancuria or near the end of the module.
As I suggested before, there's a missed opportunity in developing the relationship with Kane. When they both first came to Betancuria, they have to travel naked, right? Or with Bull, I'm still curious about his girlfriend.
I wonder why Female PCs are THAT popular? It wouldn't be strange if there was a 50/50 in the number of games that let play as male or female but such extreme popularity for female PCs while so small for male PCs...
Are there so many female players here? Maybe girl on girl is considered as hotter than guy on girl?
As a guy I'd rather seduce chicks with a male PC rather than seducing other chicks and dudes with a female PC. Its nice to see some diversity at least.
Its cooler when there is an option to choose gender and it affects how the story unfolds though such procedure takes a ton of work from the modder and if the game itself is particularly long then making different storylines based on gender can be to exhausting.
