Description | |
After drinking yourself to oblivion the previous evening, you wake up in a ditch outside the fence of an unrecognized village early the following morning with a hangover that features a headache for the ages. The bright morning sun burrows into your brain with an insistence that makes you wish you were dead. You have no idea where you are or how you got there. Time to find out... But beware! This town is not as peaceful as it seems from the outside. Many dangers await! |

I played this one because I realized it was the prequel to Mountain of Trouble about 5 mins into that module. So I backed up and loaded this one up. It got had an 8.04 with 131 votes on the old vault.
First the cons: It is a module with a very strange background story. The sub quests do mostly tie in with the background and a couple are quite creative. Some of the them are just strange or do not make sense, for example Vampires in the cemetery next to guards who are patrolling. There is good treasure just lying around in chests and barrels in the middle of the town or in the middle of the woods. The monster placement and groupings are a bit kooky at times as well.
With that said the module ends up being fairly enjoyable. It is not terribly long, a couple of hours, but if you can look past some of the out of place encounters and items and sometimes bizarre sub quests, it is actually quite fun.
I played with 1.69 and CEP 2.6 with a 12 Level Paladin. I did not experience any bugs and the encounters were scaled appropriately.
All in all a fun couple of hours.
I had a lot of fun with this adventure, though at times the setting was overwhelming (for example Romar's basement was huge while it normally shouldn't. How big should an elder's basement be?). In general I liked it. Beautiful story with simple dialogues.
All seemed to work. A bit weirdhaving the town split like that, but so be it. The first quest did not get acknowledged. Not bad though.
