This is the HD Aribeth as seen on Beamdog's stream for use in your override or injected into your patch hak. AndrewG of Beamdog kindly granted permission to cross post this item to the Vault despite being hosted on the Steam Workshop.
Included is the Aribeth model with normal and specular maps as well as a shader file.
As a result of these graphical upgrades, this WILL NOT WORK for non-Enhanced Edition users.

Amazing! I love love love this! Thanks for sharing, y'all!
At the risk of being branded sexist... While the model and textures are so much better, I still maintain that the original Aribeth was prettier...
TR
Like Treant said I had to go in and adjust the hair color to match the old one :) but still a nice model. I might make some minor changes to the hair and and add some danglemesh to it also. I need to edit the specular map related to the hair, seem to give it a plastic kind of look.
Yeeees!
Aribeth is redhead at official art. Old in-game model was incorrect.
It's decent... for NWN. Still a little cartoonish though. I suppose that's the game's style.
I think they mentioned in the livestream that this style lines up with 5E's art direction. I can imagine they sat down and thought, "Ok guys, we have to redo dozens of tilesets, hundreds of placeables, and scores of creatures on a shoestring budget... AAA photorealism is not in the cards."
I kinda dig it but then I liked NWN2's graphic style too so maybe I'm not a reliable judge.
My god if this is a sign of what Beamdog are going to do with the rest of the charcter models then the game will be barely reogiseable when they've finished...
It's a vast improvement. If the rest of the assets are getting the same treatment, it's most welcome. Sure, it may not look up to modern standards, but I would like to think limitations are the issue, rather than a lack of work.
Oh my...
This is the best Valentine's gift ever Beamdog! I mean, I still think we should just stay friends and keep it professional, but... wow.
@ShadowM - agreed, the plastic look kinda spoils an otherwise much improved character model. I hope they're not going to make NWN look like a Toy Story console game.
@Tarot Redhand - we really need to push back against the puritanical elite who want us to believe that taking pleasure in beauty or erotica is somehow "sexist".
Beautiful work of art. Hits the perfect balance between Realism and "Cartoonish" Style.
This is a great spot to be for a game like NWN1.
Question: Trent mentioned that the skeleton rig has a limit of 124 bones? Is that just the body rig or the entire model? I would really like to rig and weight paint some facial animations onto that skeleton.
With the improved graphics, facial features are beginning to hit uncanny valley during animations. Would be nice to get some Eyebrow / Lip / Blinking motion in the face. Nothing too advanced, a little bit goes a long way.
OMG... she's just ugly
I mean, the technical improvement is very impressive but what about her face ? She looks like a male fighter with a wig on
Please don't do this to the lovely lovely Aribeth
Pretty nice!!
The only issue would be her hair color as Aribeth in official art is closer to a brunette than this. Regarding said hair it would be also good to make it look kinda less of a "hood"...like more...living.
Hmmm....
It would be cool if Blackguard Ari had maybe a bit of a change in looks to more sultry and villainous perhaps to reflect her personality change.
Two words come to my mind when I see the full model: uninspired and generic.
is trash :(
Aw man, y'jerks, you two. ^^ You know they went and made this because people really wanted model updates. It's a very nice gesture, and a very nice new mesh. Ain't as if there're a lot of people here who could've done a better job, either, if any.
I'mma download that and play around with adjusting it a little, too. We can have a pile of Aribeth-versions in no time, same as with the different looks for the Dragon Age characters.
@TheBarbarian, are you calling me a jerk just for saying that in my opinion it lacks "soul"? I don't know what would have happened if I said that the model is bad and gave it a low vote xD
TheBarbarian is an all around nice guy. He was saying ya jerks in a playful way. His point is that Beamdog can't account for taste, but they can put the right tools in place to allow the community to do something special.
If you look around the Vault you'll see he's done dozens and dozens and dozens of custom head models. He's currently working on Aribeth's head and has made it look phenomenal IMO. https://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/external/Rv7oybEpL1OVi__YjZE2D2_rmgj...
I just took a peek at that link - TheBarbarian, that is beyond stellar! Truly you are a king of heads! I absolutely can't wait to see how this progresses!
::laughter:: To be fair, MadHatter didn't post the picture where the top half of her head is gone. There's something wrong with exporting the head_g weight group, at the moment.
Check out ShadowM's redux, too! AFAIK ShadowM's gonna do hair and armor edits as well. We're gonna have so many Aribeths soon, it'll be amazing. :D 'course, apparently the original is still WIP, so it's probably more sensible to wait till we've got the final version before we modify too much.
Sorry, Xenovant. Wasn't intended in a mean way. I loved your cyclops heads, by the way. :-)
FWIW, I'd've probably tried to drag you into modifying it, too. I'm pretty sure having a critical eye on stuff like this is actually what lets people get good at this kind of thing, since it means they can see what's wrong, so they can improve it. Not being able to see what's wrong or when something's wrong is the worst.
The new mesh's a lot of fun to play around with, and Blender's extremely smooth to use once you've got the hotkeys memorized. I'm loving this this thing. If anyone wants to use this opportunity to get into 3d modeling and make their own Aribeth variant, the new forum makes posting screenshots really easy and I don't bite even total newbies. I might slobber gleeful adoration all over them, though, because hello new headsing buddies we should make some neat stuff the world needs more neat stuff in it.
TheBarbarian, ah ok, haha. About the cyclops... as Dancar said, on the Ultima module, I just made/modified all models following his instructions xD
Yeah, I have also thought to modify it. Even if you don't like a model, you can use it as a starting point.
Yeah. :D Easier to get good results the better the base is, too, and this one's much nicer than what we had to work with so far. I think the armor could probably be split up into PC armorparts, too, or be made into a robe. Show pics if you decide to modify it!
I think Beamdog did well with making this new model, she looks more like her concept art now :)
They would have to do much more than that, to make this boring OC interesting and worthwhile.
- I loved your cyclops heads, by the way
Xenovant has taken and changed the heads according my wishes, even he didn't like them very much. To be precise.
TheBarbarian's version is so much better, not perfect yet but I'm confident he'll deliver a fine Aribeth in the end : from all his other great works and well... with such a name I'm sure he's a man of taste
She'll be strong and cute, powerful yet feminine
Of course with the original Aribeth you had to imagine her more than look at the screen, but many artworks (mainly Wisteria and Roses) helped create her picture
You have to be happy with the improvements that EE brings, and I'm thankful for that, but still : her face in the screenshots was so manly... maybe they were working on the same model for both Ari and Nasher : red hair for her, mustache for him
All I'm suggesting, friends, is this - how long has Beamdog been working on the EE, and look at what they've developed so far. Don't take the Aribeth HD model as an end product; instead, look at the possibilities that this one model has opened up, especially in regards to jumpstarting the community's creativity. Beamdog has quite a distance to go yet, and if this model is any indication of what is in store for our beloved NwN, it's a long road filled with great, great things!
Dont. Do. This. I mean Ok, let this (pretty controversial) model be an example of the opportunities updated engine offer. But do not remake the whole game THIS way. It will ruin everything.
The die is cast. Beamdog could have gone one of two ways when it comes to aesthetics. Either they stuck to a single diffuse texture and made the engine withstand higher resolution images and higher-poly models to make it look like The Witcher, or they could go the way they have, by introducing postproc effects, specular and normal maps, like most modern games which ALSO makes characters look "plastic." I don't think you can have both.
I think they're all good ideas. Skyrim has beautifying mods for all races, because all of them are horrendous (humans included), and the result is a very pleasing version of each of them. There's no reason NWN couldn't do the same. I don't use any races other than human precisely because of this, and not even as playing characters, but as NPC's either. Orcs are green humans, elves are pointy-eared humans, dwarves are hairy humans, etc.
Or for UK residents 200 pounds = 14 stones and 4 1/2 ounces.
TR
Don't worry, I googled it
. FYI 1 stone = 14 lbs and 1lb = 16 ozs.
TR
In our next... A fortnight in Firkin Furlong... FFF rules.
Fortnight = 2 weeks, sennight = 1 week (archaic rarely used), Furlong 1/8th of a mile (1 kilometer = 5 furlongs), Firkin container size depends on whether for beer or wine. A firkin of beer holds a quarter of a barrel. A firkin of wine is much larger.
TR
By extension, Firkin is the unit of mass in the FFF system, being the weight of one firkin of water in Greenwich at the average ambient temperature of British beer. Other definitions are available. Furlong = length. Fortnight = time.
Go figure the weight of dwarves in firkins and their height in furlongs. More convenient by far.
My car gets fourty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I like it!
Beamdogribeth has gone the road of becoming first Juststartingribeth, then Inprogressribeth, then Almostdoneribeth, and now she is Barbaribeth. MORE ARIBETHS! THE PLURALRIBETHS SHALL REIGN SUPREME!
Somebody (who is not me) should do an Aribeth with pants. Gothifying her for Evil-Aribeth should be fun, too.
addendum: "Headlessribeth" was also a stage, as was "Twitchinghairribeth" and "Glowingwerewolfeyesribeth". Spec maps are neat. For the record, if anyone's ever struggling with weighted hair that's a child of head_g twitching and jerking uncontrollably, try swapping it out with head_g, so the hair part is head_g and whatever immobile thing was in head_g is the child instead. That took way too many hours to investigate.
Was looking forward to the character model updates as this one was pretty good for an old game... but sadly over a year and a half later, we dont have much to show for it in the way of updates/progress etc. They stretch themselves too thin with all their projects and taking on new stuff all the time.. ?
