I used the mp3 to bmu converter and while the program lists the song as one of the bmu files it doesn't show up when I try to pick it in the toolset. What's wrong?

Now look at your last line. Do you see your entry in the second column? It needs to be just **** (4 asterix not 5 with a number attached). Remember be careful, computers are literally stupid. If NwN doesn't recognise what you are trying to do it will ignore it.

Hi. I started making modules again after a long break and i am trying to add more songs, however the one I added (mus_tongue) doesn't show up even though I htink I did everything right. Here is the contents of my ambient music with mus_tongue at the end. Can someone tell me what im doing wrong?
That 2da looks a bit of a mess. Everything looks fine up to and including line 123 - each line has the requesit 6 columns ignoring the line numbers. Line 124 only has only has 4 then there are 3 columns on the following un-numbered line. line 125 also only has 4 columns followed by 3 columns on the following un-numbered line. All the lines from 127 to 195 have 7 columns then the following un numbered line only has a single column. Finally all the lines from 196 to the end also have 7 columns. Remember you only want exactly 6 columns for each line. You need to sort out your column problem first before retrying. Once you have got those columns sorted it would be a good idea to run this 2da through a tidying program (if you are on windows try the one I wrote). That way you see such problems as soon as they arise.
The format of a 2da file is that each line consists of a fixed number of columns. This number is determined by the header line. Count the number of items on that line. Each line where I've already told you there are too many columns, remove the last '****'. So that is lines from 127 onwards up to and including line 195 remove the last '****'. Then for lines 196 to line 215 remove the last '****'. Next remove the three un-numbered lines (between 124 and 125, between 125 and 126, between 195 and 196).
Paste the following onto the end of line 124 (include the leading space but not the single quotes) - ' **** ****'
Paste the following onto the end of line 125 (include the leading space but not the single quotes) - ' **** ****'
It still doesn´t work despite Tarot Redhand´s fresh 2da?
I´d say rename the old ambientmusic.2da and put it in an extra folder, far away from NWN and your current project.
Now open the windows text editor, copy and paste Tarot´s 2da. Remember to save it it as *.2da and not as *.txt
Make sure that you typed ambientmusic correctly. Sounds extremely stupid, but it´s just a savety measure.
Put the new ambientmusic in an empty hak, save
Add the hak to your module. Save, close the toolset.
Open the toolset again...
PS: If you want to you can add one of NWN´s "Stingers", that´s the the-battle-is-over-now outro, to your battle theme. Otherwise the battke theme simply fades out. They´re attached to every battle theme in the ambientmusic.2da. Simply copy & paste one of them.
I just reread the bioware tutorial (the one I linked to above) and found something. Which leads me to ask, did you bother to download and read it? If so you would have come across this section -
Editing ambientmusic.2da
2. Copy the "ambientmusic.2da" file out of the "source" directory where you have installed Neverwinter Nights (The default location is "C: \NeverwinterNights \NWN \source").
3. Add a new line to the end of "ambientmusic.2da" with you favourite text editor. Here is a sample showing the last two lines, and then our new line 57 added:

Look at that last entry then look at the 2da that I fixed the errors in. You will see that you have not included anything under DisplayName. This is important because according to the Custom Content guide -
As of version 1.26 of NWN, Bioware added a new column to ambientmusic.2da – DisplayName. If the Description column contains ****, then the Toolset will use the text in DisplayName for the name of the file. This is how labels in .2da files should work!
So you are not seeing anything because you have not told it what to show.
Ok your not gonna believe this but, the reason it wasn't working was I kept saving the nw version of custommusic.hak to the main directory rather than the hak folder

That just says to follow some guide on bioware's site which doesn't exist anymore. Anyway what I did was.
1. converted mp3 to bmu
2. got the ambientmusic.2da file
3. added a line for my new song (no idea what number to put for the code though)
4. made a hakpack containing th new ambientmusic.2da file
5. Added hakpack to module
Despite all this the file doesn't show up in the area music at all.
Filename must match that of the line in ambientmusic.2da.
Here is an example.

Your filename would then be named:

Starting at line 124, there's two extra "****", so everything else after that will be offset.
At line 126 on the other hand, two "****" are missing.
And starting at line 127, there's an extra "****" (each line should contain 7 values, including the row number).
That 2da looks a bit of a mess. Everything looks fine up to and including line 123 - each line has the requesit 6 columns ignoring the line numbers. Line 124 only has only has 4 then there are 3 columns on the following un-numbered line. line 125 also only has 4 columns followed by 3 columns on the following un-numbered line. All the lines from 127 to 195 have 7 columns then the following un numbered line only has a single column. Finally all the lines from 196 to the end also have 7 columns. Remember you only want exactly 6 columns for each line. You need to sort out your column problem first before retrying. Once you have got those columns sorted it would be a good idea to run this 2da through a tidying program (if you are on windows try the one I wrote). That way you see such problems as soon as they arise.

The format of a 2da file is that each line consists of a fixed number of columns. This number is determined by the header line. Count the number of items on that line. Each line where I've already told you there are too many columns, remove the last '****'. So that is lines from 127 onwards up to and including line 195 remove the last '****'. Then for lines 196 to line 215 remove the last '****'. Next remove the three un-numbered lines (between 124 and 125, between 125 and 126, between 195 and 196).
Paste the following onto the end of line 124 (include the leading space but not the single quotes) - ' **** ****'
Paste the following onto the end of line 125 (include the leading space but not the single quotes) - ' **** ****'
You should now have a fixed 2da file.

It still doesn´t work despite Tarot Redhand´s fresh 2da?
I´d say rename the old ambientmusic.2da and put it in an extra folder, far away from NWN and your current project.
Now open the windows text editor, copy and paste Tarot´s 2da. Remember to save it it as *.2da and not as *.txt
Make sure that you typed ambientmusic correctly. Sounds extremely stupid, but it´s just a savety measure.
Put the new ambientmusic in an empty hak, save
Add the hak to your module. Save, close the toolset.
Open the toolset again...
PS: If you want to you can add one of NWN´s "Stingers", that´s the the-battle-is-over-now outro, to your battle theme. Otherwise the battke theme simply fades out. They´re attached to every battle theme in the ambientmusic.2da. Simply copy & paste one of them.
I just reread the bioware tutorial (the one I linked to above) and found something. Which leads me to ask, did you bother to download and read it? If so you would have come across this section -
It shows all the other songs just not the last one.
