D20 Modern: All Base Tiles Done

Quite happy to announce that all of the base tiles are complete. From here I'll be adding a couple to several more tile variants, features and groups of my own. Additionally, new crossers to a select few. Here's some of mine to share:

  • All slums will get a new corner and side feature called "Scorched". This'll allow creators to have a scene were the building is on fire, or was on fire. Is or was on fire, it'll have scorch marks near the windows.
  • All alleyways will have clothes dangling about, more fire escapes, graffiti and a fence door at the end of the alleyway.
  • A new group street called "Crack". Showing its pipes and dirt.
  • Aqueducts will have a personal door side feature called "Maintenance Tunnel".
  • Water will have two new personal crossers called "docks" and "railing".
  • On the roof of hospital, it will have a group called "Helipad" that's 2x2.
  • Both chain-link fences will have a fence door.
  • A new feature called "Subway Entrance".

These are just ideas thus far. Of course there'll be a point where thinking of new ones will be challenging. If you gals and guys want to share ideas some of your own or like see to be added, please don't hestiate to share it.

Whilst is great from here but the dilemma, however, of adding new tiles, is the naming convention. I decided to make my own prefix to avoid any issues. Majority of the tiles are prefixed with "dgt04_". The possibilty of unintentionally naming an exact tile that already exist is likely. Plus the name of the tiles are the somewhat scattered. One moment it's dXX, and then, it's gXX.

That's it for this week. I'll see you gals and guys next week. I will also keep on this post for any ideas you gals and guys have for new features, groups and such.

Those sound awesome, can't wait to see them. Some really nice variety and very useful additions. You might like to take a look at the placeables here https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/prefab/placeable/new-d20-moder... by VeilofShadows for some fast ideas as to what might be added to a tile as automatic "street furniture". Veil's stuff is already in the D20 Modern haks too which allows continuity of design between placeables and tileset. That's your choice of course though, you are the creator.

I would also suggest you try to stay inside the naming convention that exists for the tileset though. Yes, it's scattered. I suspect it was originally thrown together by someone who didn't understand the necessity of renaming and it's no end of trouble when you try to work with it (as you have discovered laugh ), but including new prefixs might complicate that further.

Some of the ideas VeilofShadows he/she had were similiar to mine. For instances, the telephone pole and fire escape ladders. However, he/she beat me to it though. If allowed by VeilofShadows, I may exact these several to some of these placeables to part of the tile. The telephone poles, for example, I might convert them into as a crosser or two (basic) group tiles: one straight and one endcap. Placeables usually cause some confusion in the path-walking, especially the AIs/NPCs. Plus it'll attenuate the list of placeables in the palette. Of course, that's just me though.

The one thing about me is I like organized work, but I may attempt to name them accordingly. To be honest, I was thinking I may have some leeway in how to name the new tiles. After all, I went through all of them to remodel, resize and realign textures, and cleaner walkmeshes (smiley). It doesn't mean, however, that I'll experiment with both. For example, instead of using the current prefix "dgt04", I'll do "dgt05" for the new tiles. This way the new tiles will be listed at the bottom for an easier time to find them. Merely an idea, of course.

Keeping the "dgt" part makes sense as it would, as you say, make them easier to find while keeping them grouped with the others.

It's great to learn someone is looking into revising the Modern tileset. Keep up the good work !
When it comes to my placeables you're free to incorporate them into your work, since after all they're already an official part of the D20 modern
hakpaks.

When it comes to my fellow creators, I usually play it safe to get permission. It is your creation still and you'd took the time to create them. Notwithstanding, it's true and I agree with you. smiley

Just a heads up, it seems there is several tiles that I missed... whoops. It shouldn't take me long.
