I first knew we were in trouble when Maximus accepted my offer to help with what sounded almost like relief.
Couldn't be. I just have a vivid imagination.
Then we started having probs with email. And with the Hall of Fame. And...
Well.
I floated the idea of a vault backup, well, a long time ago. Fire extinguisher, sprinklers. Maybe even a safe place to put the files.
Last October I was seriously frightened by the things I saw and didn't see, the things everyone heard and the things only I heard.
A few other people started talking to me and helping out.
And the vault got worse.
I'm starting to pontificate. Not my intention.
Pain & Tarot, Werelynx & Henesua. Others. A lot of people have been working hard over the last two months saving stuff.
We have archive of all the project files through last Sunday. We have copies of the meta data and copies of the download counts and award tags and at least the first page of comments.
We have archives of most of the articles and tutorials. We even have the surviving "top ten" lists (some of which even feature a certain old wizard from 2001 ;-)
The library may be burning, but the books are safe.
Not everything works. Not everything works right. But the new place is starting to come together.
I rather like it here.
And, given the opportunity, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't let a crazy old wizard and his smart-beaked bird work here =)
Actually, Rolo, I love the new Vault! And I'm glad it's here. I posted in the forums tonight mentioning how I visited the old Vault and it was down for some reason or another... then i read your info here and I take it the old place is having some serious issues eh? Good thing you got this new place up and running then or a lot would be lost indeed! Actually your bird is rather cool, I love ravens... being a Witch in real life myself, I've always had a certain spiritual affinity for those noble birds. And let's not forget, they're the Norse god Odin's favorite birds! His two pet ravens were named Thought and Memory too, which kind of suits the idea of preserving Nwn content through the new Vault. You know what they say... in this universe there are neither accidents nor coincidences, only destiny! But hey, us Wizards and Witches dig this stuff. Lol.
Now we just gotta get all the old stuff pulled into the new place. :)
Everyone involved in this, your efforts are very much appreciated... I have no capacity to help with either bandwidth or expertise however, beyond simply saying good on you and keep up the good work.
The one thing I wouldnt mind kowing though is, was anything lost? or was everything (both nwn1 and nwn2) saved?..
Or all of them. Tyche, Jannath, and even Moander! Thanks for making the new vault possible.
I wasn't around at the very beginning of NWN1, but I've been around in one fashion or another for a long time. The Vault was central to our community and our hobby. I can't tell you folks how glad I am to hear that all of that work has survived, at least in some fashion. Best wishes on continuing to restore all of this content.

My commentary via facebook seems to be alerting some of the lost. I hope it also brings enough support to help fund the new vault for a long time to come.
Thanks again Rolo and the team.
Would you advise builders to reload theirsd mods, or to wait for the compete recovery?
Informing French forums for now.
Personally, I'd rather *my* content be uploaded and edited and made pretty by *me*, rather than Otto Matic.
In other words, I'd trust author's uploading their own content over the automagic migration tool getting everything right...
The decision, of course, is for each author to make, but I recommend uploading their own stuff and formatting their project the waythey want.
I'll look around to see if there are options, but I for one would like to donate $$$ to the cause. I hardly game much anymore but I do like the option & bit of a stick in the mud on changing games out.
I *might* also be able to help out in other ways, depending on hosting requirements & so on.
