The Guardian - A Tale From the Land of Argyle Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 3 months ago

The man trudged on along the edge of the mist; his boots wearily crunched through the hard snow that lay on the rocky ground, the rim of a battered round shield poked out from behind a tattered cloak. How many times had he crossed this path? How many seasons had he spent circling the edge of the Shroud, challenging the foul, undead creatures that braved the edge of the mist? Four? Five? Even he was not certain anymore.

The Hunt for Bodamil - Part One Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

Long months of war had ravaged the small country. An oppressive regime led by an evil king had ruled for a generation, pillaging the country to support their own pleasures and provoking neighbouring states with acts of violence and thievery. A coalition of neighbouring states formed; banding together they invaded, routing the evil regime but leaving behind a land in tatters.

I spent about thirty minutes on this small little poem, and I know for that long it's barely worth the Vault, but I'd be interested to see some suggestions for improvement, since I do think it needs improvements, but I have no idea what to add. Comments, votes and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Keep the sanity to a limit,

The Inner Demons of Morgan Cromwell ChaosQueen_Kara_8 2015-10-10 4 years 6 months ago

Some people's inner demons stay within them. In the case of Morgan Cromwell, a tragic paladin, his inner demons became so powerful, that they found a way out. This is his strange tale, in his words and those of the noted traveller Volo:

The Land of Caern - Dreams End, Dreams Begin (Chapter Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 3 months ago

Yenti Joncet stood dumbfounded, not able to comprehend how such animalistic shrieks were coming from the young princess. His left hand still pulled on the alarm cordon in the corner of Prince Arrinn's living quarters. Yenti wondered if he might still be dreaming; he could swear just a few seconds before he had been in the royal bakery with Lola, the chef's apprentice-

Any thoughts Yenti Joncet had of dreaming came to an end when Drona Twoblade came charging into the room.

The Land of Caern - Mornin' Time (Chapter One) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 3 months ago

A strong wind whipped up as Sarah stepped out onto the battlements. It almost pushed her back through the door, eliciting a giggle from the eleven year-old princess. The gust was a prelude to the storm that was surely to follow; Sarah hoped it marked the coming of winter to the province of Yew. It was much colder on the battlements than it had been inside the castle, but to the young princess it could not have been more comfortable. She really didn't understand it, but temperature fluctuations never had much effect on her. This ability continually amazed her father, Prince Ren Perti of Yew. Prince Ren would walk around the castle in multiple layers of wool and deerskin, still shivering from the cold, and in would walk Sarah with nothing more than a silk robe covering her lithe shoulders.

The Land of Caern - Seeker (Prologue) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 3 months ago

Gareth Beckwin looked out over the Hall, which was more than half full just two hours past sunrise. Gareth stood on a dais, left hand resting on one of the back posts of Duke Olandis Pell's throne. The grand chair was the only seat in the Hall. The many benches in the great room had been removed in order to fit more people into the Hall. The commoners all had their reasons for being present this day, and all looked forward to speaking to their Duke. Olandis Pell had not yet arrived and was not expected for another hour at least.

The Land of Caern - Stirrings (Chapter Two) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 3 months ago

Arames Kragen sat on the edge of what served as his bed, staring a little too intently at a chair just out of arm's reach. As if he finally concluded that the chair was not going to come to him, he pulled himself up and went over to it. He ran his hand over his face, stretching his skin, as if he hoped it would help clear the cobwebs from his head.

A Tale From the Land of Argyle

This is just great! thought Linaen. Stuck in the middle of the Yurtrus Morass. No guides, no spell book, no food, nothing! Sighing, the half-elf plucked another lump of fast-drying mud from her now-tattered robes, flung it further out into the swamp with a curse and continued contemplating of her fate.

The March of the Dead Migrate Wizard 2015-10-16 3 years 10 months ago

There are six short stories, ranging in length from only two pages to thirteen. The middle three are set within the Four Part Land, the Battle of the Winds and the Sands taking place on the trade route between Tri-Hauwcerton and Bhreac Veryan as it winds through the desert, Yathol's Revenge occurring in an unspecified location along the great peninsula that sticks out into the ocean, while Caer Chan Carega is situated in the city of Tri-Hauwcerton. The first story, The March of the Dead, is set in none of these places, but simply within its own setting, created only for the short story. Ar Goll Filwr also resides in its own little world, created for the story. The Desert of Souls sits athwart the same trade route as the Battle of the Winds and the Sands and is in many ways a successor story, or at least interlinked.

In terms of the order in which they were written, Yathol's Revenge is the first, being over a year old, with The March of the Dead second, a short story written on a whim in the middle of work on Caer Chan Carega, which was completed afterwards, near the beginning of this year. Battle of the Winds and the Sands is not a brand new piece, but it is under a month old, written as a break from the Tale of the Apprentice, the first in a series of ongoing serialized stories that will eventually be turned into a novel, if all goes well.

The Messenger (Chapter Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 3 months ago

We were not too far from the gutte folks of Nuestead when I became aware of him. He was woodwise, patient, and very quiet. But not for nothing am I NFR. I was not worried; Old Boy was near and in no way distressed, and I just knew I had nothing to fear. Finally tired of the quiet pacing I turned to the rhododendron on the switchback above and behind me and said, "So, how goes it today friend?" I paused in my hike to look directly at where he was.

The Messenger - Chapter One Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

The gorge spread out before me; a deep cleft, pine covered, with a falling stream down the center of the cut. To the right side was a decent trail, but I could see where the spring had uncovered slides and tree falls. There would be at least three places where I would either have to climb over thick tree tangles of fallen pines, or try and slide into the draw.

The Messenger - Chapter Two Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

I found over the next few days the Old Boy had a mind of his own. He might pace me, so that I saw him ten times in a day; just as like I might not see him for a day. Having a companion of some sorts was a boon to me, because I was sure fire miserable on the trail. The burn on my arm hurt so much, and chafed under my pack and clothes that there were times I felt like crying; 'course, there was no one to see me loose my cool, and no one to feel sorry for me. But it sure hurt, and as the day grew hot in the middle, I would sweat like pig, and the salt sweat was like hot pitch where my burn had cracked.

The Misadventures of the Venerable Mister Pinker - Chapter Two Migrate Wizard 2015-09-24 4 years 3 months ago

The merchant cart rolled away down the horribly rutted, muddy road. Behind it the merchant left one very short person and two bizarre steeds. Their horses (for they appeared as the body of a horse) were made of iron, with scale mail covering their sides and plate mail making up their armored heads. They were beautifully crafted, complete with the visage of a true horse. However, instead of legs each had two wheels and instead of a tail they had what looked like miniature smokestacks that billowed black smoke. As they stood there, the air was filled with a reverberating roaring sound.

The Protector - Chapter One (Peace) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

A shadowy figure rested easily in the perch of an old oak tree listening to the soft and fading winter wind as it rustled the leaves around him. Sethison held a special place in his heart for the forest edge of Silverwood along the banks of the river Rauvin. He was at peace with an evening such as this only a half-days travel away from his home in Silverymoon. It was here in the wilderness surrounding the river where he could still find peace from the everyday bustle. He gazed down on the pale reflections of Selune off the rivers casual drifting surface. Content to fight the chill and watch the beautiful moon rise high into the night, Seth leaned back against the trunk of the great oak finding solace in its strength. His thoughts drifted as he thanked this old companion for such a great view. As if in response, the winds swirled up through the large branches, sending subtle vibrations through the oak and into Seth's relaxed body. It was here that Sethison Alandar, not only enjoyed the tranquility of the world around him, but also accepted his first assignment as a Protector of Silverymoon and its surroundings. He could not think of a better place to be assigned patrols and for him, this night, it seemed more a privilege than an assignment. Seth relived the recent memory of his acceptance into Silverymoon's Protectors Guild, a proud day indeed, for him and his parents, when he completed his training and education at the University of Silverymoon. A wry smile crossed his lips as he recalled the embrace of his father seeing him off for his first month of duty.

They would not get away with this. There was no way that Syndira was going to let those goblins keep the precious artifact, which her village had held sacred for centuries. She blamed herself somewhat for the disappearance of the relic. Had she not been away visiting an old friend in Hillsfar, she could have defended the village from the goblin raid. But the news had reached her soon enough, and her friend had agreed to accompany her to help reclaim their prize possession. And although the two of them had not fought side by side in years, Syndira knew that she and Tomas would still be a formidable pair in combat.

The Saga of Bellona, Priestess of Pwyll - Evil in Kolyen (Chapter Two) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

Two days had passed since the initiation. Bellona was on the way back to her bedchamber when she noticed two of her fellows with their heads together. They were whispering furiously, but paused as she approached. Not willing to intrude, she forced back her curiosity and returned to the small room that contained her bed. She was preparing for an hour of meditation when a knock came to her door. A note was slipped under her door, and the messenger continued down the corridor, knocking on the next door in turn. Looking at the slip of paper, Bellona saw that it was a calling to a mass gathering of her fellows. Hurrying to the main temple, she saw many of the clerics gathered already. The bishop himself was there, speaking to several other people of high rank in the temple. She whispered to one of her comrades, "What is going on?" The woman only shrugged. Bellona remained silent then, waiting to find out what was happening. Soon the bishop stood to speak. All became quiet.

The Saga of Bellona, Priestess of Pwyll - Initiation (Chapter One) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 3 months ago

She had never felt closer to Pwyll than at this moment. As she stood with her blue robe draped over her body, she looked up into the eyes of her master. The huge statue that depicted her god towered above her, looking down at her in his infinite wisdom. In her heart she vowed to always do as her god wished of her. Her vision was blurred as tears began to stream down her face, and the high priest handed her her newly bound book, the one she would never part with, the book of Pwyll's will.

The Stars are Bright Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 3 months ago

The stars are bright tonight thought Cry as he stared into the clear, bright sky, beautiful points of fire in the heavens... His eyes traced the purple tides of galaxies across the skies until he found his favorite star, Cormus, named after the god of storms, the wanderer. As he watched a mass of clouds began to move across the horizon; he narrowed his eyes as it began passing over the herds of glimmering stars, approaching his. As the first wisp passed across it Cry began concentrating intently; the wisp of cloud thinned and the star became visible once again. There... He returned his attention to the rampart he was patrolling. The stones were slick underneath his sandaled feet, but he was used to it having lived by the sea all his life. He strode confidently across the narrow battlement, to lean against the low, stone wall. He scanned the shore of the small island; the beach was within easy walking distance of the fort and Cry could hear the comforting sound of the waves upon the shore. He closed his eyes remembering previous nights like this.

The Multiple Hak Pack Phenomenon dwinblood 2015-11-11 2 years 4 months ago

Several patches ago Bioware released a feature that should have made disseminating hak packs for your modules a breeze. In fact the end result is that most module specific hak packs should have been around 2 to 3 MB in size. However, I am still seeing the multi-meg hak packs out there for modules. Most people say big deal, I have broadband. Well, it can be a big deal for reasons other than internet speed. I have an opinion that has formed that most of us downloading modules and content fall into the following categories:
