Hero's Song - Chapter Twenty Migrate Wizard 2015-10-08 4 years 7 months ago

Harper isn't exactly hero material...she's a bard, a damn good one, and has spent most of her life blandishing tales about other people. And when her life is thrust onto a pinwheel track of death, danger, magic, and adventure, she finds more and more people look to her for answers. And more than a few are looking to her for something more...

Chapter One - Aribeth The Willing Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 7 months ago

I stepped through the portal and didn't look back. Bright light blinded me as I appeared back at Castle NeverWinter.
My tasks were done. My journey...finished, or has it just begun?

A Neverwinter Nights Fantasy - Chapter Three Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 7 months ago

The brave adventurers faced their first adversaries, a group of eight skeletons.

Vanguarde did not hesitate, the barbarian leaping forward with another inarticulate warcry. With a mighty two-handed swing he slammed his waraxe into the body of the leading skeleton, shattering its body into a thousand pieces.

The Undead Slayer Migrate Wizard 2015-09-22 4 years 7 months ago

"Then, will you give me your word?"

The central tower's doors would not open without it, and if they did, it would be only for one of the pair. Standing outside of the imposing stone circle, the man dressed in robes made his reply. He was clearly a priest, judged by both his speech and visage, for only a priest would be holding his hands in steel gauntlets when outside of them his only protection was that of a thick, black woolen cape overbearing plain linen robes. Once the vow was declared, it took only a flip of his complement's wrists to feel that, indeed, he had no evil intent. The paladin himself was certain before, but felt the need, as dictated in his scriptures, more important than his most sound judgement.

Planetouched - Chapter Four (The Sage and the Shards) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-18 4 years 7 months ago

A young girl forced into a destiny she never wanted finally accepts her fate, but is it set in stone? A NWN 2 fanfic with twists here and there and an ending I would have preferred.

When a new threat arises on the horizon of Faerun, Neverwinter looks for their long lost hero. But with no sight of him, they turn to the only one who will save them, a paladin, a blackguard, a woman whose tale lives on...

'After the War...' - Chapter One (B.E.A.R.D) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-14 4 years 7 months ago

"'Blood finds a way. Always.'

A fanfic with power, romance and death. How will Fade Centolethin escape the tomb under the Mere?

The Way of the Hunter - Meditation (Chapter Twenty-Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-10 4 years 7 months ago

As the dust settles after the battle with the King of Shadows, the people of Neverwinter wait in anticipation for the triumphant return of their heroes...but they never came back. What became of their champions? Where is the Knight-Captain? Will she finally return victorious, or will she forever live on only in tavern stories?

(A what-might-have-been story post-NWN2, with some flashbacks to the OC. Be gentle, this is my first attempt!)

The Relic Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 7 months ago

They would not get away with this. There was no way that Syndira was going to let those goblins keep the precious artifact, which her village had held sacred for centuries. She blamed herself somewhat for the disappearance of the relic. Had she not been away visiting an old friend in Hillsfar, she could have defended the village from the goblin raid. But the news had reached her soon enough, and her friend had agreed to accompany her to help reclaim their prize possession. And although the two of them had not fought side by side in years, Syndira knew that she and Tomas would still be a formidable pair in combat.

Embers of Black - Chapter Eight Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

The sounds a scuffle woke Talomanes from his dozing slumber. An unknown feminine voice swore loudly, which caused a stir in the dozing woman beside the paladin. Something cold and metal brushed past his arm, causing him to recoil. A blade? His hazy mind was still trying to anchor itself firmly back in reality.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Twenty-One - Into the Deep) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 7 months ago

The brave group of warriors proceeded carefully along the narrow mountain path, their weapons drawn and ready. Somewhere in the distance lay the entrance to Rakrath's caves, and within the depths of those dark caverns stood the foul necromancer himself, plotting the downfall of the dwarf empire and his own ascent to power.

Countless Nights Migrate Wizard 2015-10-16 4 years 7 months ago

Everyone of us once lost a loved one. Everyone of us has felt the aching beat of your heart when memories of that loved one pour into your mind. We feel lost, thinking this feeling will never go away.

And it is this feeling that remains the longest, and is ever so cruel. I have lost many loved ones in my life, would it be by eternity or merely out of sight. And even though the pain gets less, our mind is heir to it and it will forever remain in our memories. Read this, as a remembrance of your loved ones. As I have written this, in dedication to my loved ones. Sober it is, but attention to the pain it causes is vital, or we find ourselves sheltered from reality.

Feel free to use it, or comment (constructive) on it. I would love to hear what such users as yourself feel and think while reading this, and your experience. Please vote as well, so I could have a reflection of the users' opinion.

Yathol's Revenge #1 Migrate Wizard 2015-10-12 4 years 7 months ago

This is an unpolished (but finished) story that takes place somewhere in the world that I created. It was written as a means of showing off the actions and abilities of Magic, in this case the Elemental Magic of Air. There will be 6 of these stories, for the 6 forms of magic: The four Elements (Air, Earth, Water, Fire), Spirit, and Nature magic. The four elements, are, as usual for elemental magic, tied together somewhat, although in a slightly different manner: Air opposes Fire, and Earth opposes Water. Spirit and Nature magic are entirely different, one based on the existence of the spirit world (think Greek Hades, as a general guide), and Nature magic, which is very totemic in nature. This story will be published in 4 installments.

Neverwinter Moments - Wendersnaven Trap Migrate Wizard 2015-10-08 4 years 9 months ago

Finally, Grobnar is permitted to seek out the Wendersnaven--- and he is accompanied by one grumbling ranger and one enthusiastic bard...

“I dreamed about one a long time ago,” said Lianne.

“I heard a story about it only the other day,” said Grobnar.

“I have never seen or heard of one,” said Bishop flatly. Apparently, the drink had loosened him enough to allow him to enter a conversation about the Wendersnaven.

Gurt Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 7 months ago

Being of half-orc descent, Gurt is a man of gigantic proportions. He lived in a humble human village in a darker region of the sword coast. No one knew who his parents were, and until the age of 15 Gurt was treated as a normal, somewhat slow-witted human child. But when his orc bloodline became apparent he was banished into the wilderness.

Blade in the Dark Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

The forest of Cormanthor was host to many different and often dangerous creatures. Theris did not know that the drow inhabited the haunted wood as well.

He almost didn't see it coming. The glint of a drawn weapon, however, alerted him to the danger he and his party were in. He immediately turned to his allies, Zartek and Djarunen, and cocked his head to his left where he saw the approaching encounter. The others nodded their heads and they readied for a fight.

The Messenger (Chapter Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 7 months ago

We were not too far from the gutte folks of Nuestead when I became aware of him. He was woodwise, patient, and very quiet. But not for nothing am I NFR. I was not worried; Old Boy was near and in no way distressed, and I just knew I had nothing to fear. Finally tired of the quiet pacing I turned to the rhododendron on the switchback above and behind me and said, "So, how goes it today friend?" I paused in my hike to look directly at where he was.

Tales of A Planeswalker - Time Mends All Wounds (Chapter Five) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-22 4 years 7 months ago

Chrono knew not where he was when he opened his eyes but he had the distinct impression that he was safe, at least for the moment. He was lying in a soft bed within a richly furnished room. The song of a nightingale drifted through a nearby open window and Chrono looked over to see Sunlight flooding through the window. Where was he? What happened?

Planetouched - Chapter Nine (Broken Hopes) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-20 4 years 7 months ago

Whatever It Takes Migrate Wizard 2015-10-10 4 years 7 months ago

Just something that entered my mind and demanded to be written. Bishop, because I just love to play with him.
This actually is my first fanfic, so please be gentle. I took a lot of liberties with the OC storyline, please don't sue me. Also, english is not my native language, so some things may sound funny.

Markshire Storyteller - Rising Force Migrate Wizard 2015-10-06 4 years 7 months ago

For years he slept, held captive by the forces of man and god. But for a champion of the Spider Temple nothing is permanent.

The Tale of Thunder - Chapter Two (Beyond Kara-Tur - Part Three: Ruins of Calledor Nujaal) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 7 months ago

The first night of riding was long. Several hours passed as they rode on their steeds in silence. Killian was afraid the horses would die or go lame after more than two or three hours of this. Nevertheless, Thunder kept a good pace until the sun began to rise in the east. It was a short while after sunrise when Thunder called them to stop.

"Take a minute to stretch," Thunder climbed off his horse.

Embers of Black - Chapter Seventeen Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

A shining sun hung overhead as the party left the cavern the next morning. Talomanes led the way, leading them by memory. Anluriel trudged along in his wake, her and the two other drow caught in the ambush moving stiffly from their still-healing wounds. The red-cloaked Anjolina made her way as best she could behind the drow, her heavy clothing sometimes bogging her down in the snow. Korg came next, his axe slung across his right shoulder as he carried a satchel loaded down with books across his left. Illandra and Corenne came after the orc, talking quietly amongst themselves, one of them occasionally moving up beside Korg to ask him a question. Maezinessa and Jaezil held the rear position, keen drow eyes keeping a vigilant watch for another ambush.

Crusaders of Allishire - Chapter One (Part Two) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 7 months ago

The look of his face, the color of his hair, the red of his eyes were all more than enough to cause Ilana to cry and wish there was a way out of her predicament. If the Gods still existed, she would pray to them for help, but she knew she would not get any help from there. Even finding a Cleric was rare enough, much less an avenger of good, a Paladin. But Ilana knew her fate was decided now. She was to become a slave to this horrible, fat, disgusting man.

One Great Big Gulp Of Air... Migrate Wizard 2015-09-21 4 years 7 months ago

Each day I leave the house at 7.30am, Sarah standing at the door, arms wrapped around her waist as her small white teeth chew her lower lip in worry. I go to the office, answer the calls, solve the problems and pass the time of day with my co-workers. All of this and I do it well, for they do not know that here, inside myself, I am screaming and calm at the same time. Automated, doing what is expected of me, although it no longer holds any meaning. I am disconnected, and I think I am glad of it. No longer a cog within a great grinding wheel, but an imposter, playing a part, yet waiting for the curtain to drop. Is this better than total ignorance, better than the oblivion of conforming? Am I mad, or are they? Where did I go for that month?

The Adventures Of Fen Pocketsfull - Part Four Migrate Wizard 2015-09-21 4 years 7 months ago

“What's with the daft look on your face then Amber…don’t tell me you're falling for a Kender!?”

“Don’t be silly Peter!” seeing her brothers look of incomprehension, Amber sighed.

“I am the head mans daughter, when those others court me with flowers, they only do so because getting me as a catch will elevate their status in the group. The Kender has nothing to gain by offering me flowers, and for once it was nice to receive a genuine gift!” Looking at her brother sternly she poked him in the chest as they walked towards Fen

“You watch yourself with that Maisy Trout, she has her beady eye on you”

Peter gulped and gave a shiver, for once he agreed with his sister, Maisy Trout was bad news!

This is part six of the story of Earth. This takes place in a more defined setting, the city of Tri-Hauwcerton, more easily called the city of Earth. It lies in the North and West, cupped by the valley of a great mountain range.

I ended up choosing an image that represented Chloddio's love of the high mountains

The Way of the Hunter - You Can't Run From Your Own Shadow (Chapter Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-09 4 years 7 months ago

Prophecy of the Talisman - Chapter One (Page Six) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-04 4 years 7 months ago

It had only been a few minutes since Berac had left but Jeran couldn't take it anymore. He was running out of air and the confines of the coffin felt like they were closing in on him. Knowing that his life depended on it, Jeran screamed aloud and banged against the coffin with his hands and feet. Sweat dripped down his forehead and his lungs burned as Jeran tried to fight off the anxiety that was slowly building up inside of him. "Was this the end?" a small part of him thought as he struggled to stay aware.

Roth stared at the combatants. Both Heynard and Jodah were excellent spell casters and neither of them was going to back down. Roth did not want to lose Heynard he was a close friend although a pompous one. Jodah however had always been loyal to Roth, even though the Amulet had the sorcerer under its control there were spells to counteract its effects they just took time. Two wizards, only one must survive, but which.

Prophecy of the Talisman - Chapter One (Page Fifteen) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-04 4 years 7 months ago

Kerli pleaded with Ellion to tend to his brother first, despite the dire consequences should Jeran die. As Ellion limped to where Jeran lay, Kerli clenched his fists in rage and returned to where his unconscious brother lay on the ground. Deep blue and purple bruises circled round Kal'im's throat, a reminder of Berac's vicious assault. Kerli pleaded with Kal'im's inert form, begging him to wake.

Tale From The World of Argyle - The Darkness Falls Migrate Wizard 2015-09-30 4 years 7 months ago

Dor grimaced into the wind as the bite of the cold air crossed his face. It was not the cold however that had brought the sour expression there, Greywolfe and the Lightning Company had not returned last night nor during the day. That could only mean one thing, something had gone terribly wrong up at the mine. The other townsfolk were beginning to show signs of worry also though, none spoke what was in their hearts. All feared for their friends lives even more then their own. The sun had already sunk behind the mountains and the cold night was just beginning, few were still out, save the sentries at their posts, huddles about their fires for what little warmth they could find. Dor turned from the door to his forge, shutting it with an absentminded push and returned to beating on the beginnings of an axe head on his anvil. He never even heard the door open up and was taken by surprise when a deep dwarven voice bellowed,

Esperan's Tears - The River of Tears and Blood (Chapter Three) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 7 months ago

Dalanthanar pulled fiercely against the reins trying to regain control of his steed amidst the torrential rain, which was now blowing nearly perpendicular; a bolt of lightning had struck an ancient oak just a few feet away, splitting its trunk in twain and startling the horses. Dalanthanar's mount ceased bucking as he patted its neck, and whispered soothing words; promising Relad carrots and sugar beets if he would just cease his rearing.

Getting Started - Basic Steps to Create a Module for Neverwinter Nights Migrate Wizard 2015-11-13 4 years 7 months ago

Having a module designed before even opening your copy of Neverwinter Nights has tremendous advantages. It will cut down on the work you'll need to do, and you'll be able to have your module up and running sooner. To help you get started, I'll present some basic steps. First, take a five sheets of paper and label them: Setting, Synopsis, Critical Path, NPCs, and Map.

Bounty Hunters in Persistent Worlds - A Study on NPCs in Neverwinter Nights (Part One) Migrate Wizard 2016-03-26 4 years 2 months ago

I would like to preface this article by stating that this will not cover actual scripting and the language, as this is knowledge not made public in any completeness whatsoever. Instead, I will be rambling on about the theory and technique to be applied through these scripts to achieve the sorts of dynamic effects and interesting NPC interactions that will separate your world from the rest.

The problem with creating a working script, and what stymies most potential “script wizards” (a term I hope catches on) is not the idea, which is the easy part, or knowing the syntax and definitions of the code. Instead, it is designing the process that the script will move through in it’s execution. In other words, how do you get from Point A to Point B. These articles will tell you how to do this in the best way I know of…an example. The first chapter, which you are reading now, will be about the theories involved.

The next installment will get a little more technical, talking about the variables affected in this situation. Lesson 3 will present a C script showing you the whole thing in a simulated (meaning corny, text-based, nothing like what it will be like) Neverwinter Nights world. Then, after the release of the game, I will make the final installment, which will be using NWScript.h and will actually work in a persistent world.

The Amateur Designers Point of View - Or the Flip Side of the Coin Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

As a novice/amateur module designer (Uluvin: Trouble in the Hills, and a follow-up currently in the testing stage), I read Vic Kappel's editorial with great interest. It was a very insightful and detailed read, with a lot of excellent suggestions for budding mod designers. However, in reading the editorial, it brought a few thoughts to mind. So to offer some suggestions to the player from the viewpoint of a designer, I offer the following, as sort of a reverse-rebuttal to Mr. Kappel's fine comments.

Why Bards Don't Suck Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

Alaric had to think fast.

Since his most recent capture by the ogres, he was sure to end up in the cooking pot this night. Certainly, his halfling companion had fallen to a similar fate the previous night, and he was not about to end up as some foul-smelling creature's evening meal. Unable to reach his mandolin, Alaric started to sing. Not just a song to calm his mind, but to capture the ogre guard's attention. He sang as best he could in ogre (one of the less romantic languages he knew) and weaved a song exalting the exploits of great ogre champions. The guard soon came back to join in on Alaric's fine vocalizations, and the quick-thinking Alaric poised a slight suggestion in his music that it might be better for the guard if this obviously harmless human was allowed out of his cage that the two could share a tankard or two whilst they sang.

It sounded a bit more like an oxen trying to yodel, but Alaric was not going to waste this opportunity as his captor opened his cage and clopped Alaric hard on the back. Alaric weaved a spell of Sleep into his singing and the guard was soon slumped, tankard in hand, across the small table outside Alaric's former cell.

Taking a few minutes to gather his gear, Alaric used stealth and agility to slip out of the ogre cave and into the freedom of the night.

Persistent Misconceptions Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

It seems that everybody and their brother has hopped aboard the rabid, bouncing badger of persistent world-creation in order to have their chance at righting all the perceived wrongs of games such as Asheron's Call, Everquest, Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online. What I keep hearing from these worlds is that although they plan to throw in a few modules, most are going to be carbon copies of the above MMORPGs, standing out only because they are following a different ruleset..

Three Hour Tour - A Land Far Away Migrate Wizard 2015-11-12 4 years 7 months ago

I have asked the community of persistent world owners to take me on a short tour of their worlds, and to show me what sets them apart. The goal was to spend one hour or so in game in the world, and have them show what was under the hood, what they were about, and what they offered. This is the tale of my journey into the persistent realms of Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2.

The stories are true. The perspective is from experience. The fun was genuine. The following is largely representative of the hosts efforts and skills of hospitality. I took notes during my visits, and walked away for a short time. I revisited them after a bit and like meeting a stranger at a party, I let my memory and impressions of the visit guide this article.
