Embers of Black - Chapter Four Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 5 months ago

As the sun passed well into midday, a column of riders several hundred strong wormed its way out of Develor, bearing southeast. A breeze whistle across the frozen plains, snapping pennants and flags, no two alike. The expedition of Lord Ithad had begun its ride.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Seventeen - The Journey Begins) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 5 months ago

As suddenly as it had begun, the rainy season finally ended. Before long, the all-too-familiar thunderclouds had parted and the valley was treated once more to the gentle winter sun. The trees were still bare, leaving the forest sadly bleak and denuded. The bright spring growth would not appear for several weeks yet, once again restoring the trees to their true glory. This was the forest at its most vulnerable and fragile. The rains had caused much damage, but had also brought a great deal of silt along with the flooded river, enriching and fertilising the valley floor. Such was the cycle of life within the forest's cruel embrace. It gave life then took it away.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Twenty-Six - Full Circle) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 5 months ago

For several days, the dwarven and elven cities resounded with a chorus of jubilant celebrations. Both communities had lived with the threat of attack for so long now that they found it difficult to accept that it was all over. There would be new enemies - that much was certain - but now the two allies could stand together against all perils that the mountains could throw at them.

"No," Ruien started, whispering, "we cannot join this evil. We shall fight it to our bitter end."

"What is your decision?" Raxinius bellowed, approaching the companions.

This is an unpolished (but finished) story that takes place somewhere in the world that I created. It was written as a means of showing off the actions and abilities of Magic, in this case the Elemental Magic of Earth. There will be 6 of these stories, for the 6 forms of magic: The four Elements (Air, Earth, Water, Fire), Spirit, and Nature magic. The four elements, are, as usual for elemental magic, tied together somewhat, although in a slightly different manner: Air opposes Fire, and Earth opposes Water. Spirit and Nature magic are entirely different, one based on the existence of the spirit world (think Greek Hades, as a general guide), and Nature magic, which is very totemic in nature. This story will be published in 15 installments.

This is part eight of the story of Earth. This takes place in a more defined setting, the city of Tri-Hauwcerton, more easily called the city of Earth. It lies in the North and West, cupped by the valley of a great mountain range.

I ended up choosing an image that represented Chloddio's love of the high mountains

The Way of the Hunter - The Final Battle (Chapter Five) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-09 4 years 5 months ago

As the dust settles after the battle with the King of Shadows, the people of Neverwinter wait in anticipation for the triumphant return of their heroes...but they never came back. What became of their champions? Where is the Knight-Captain? Will she finally return victorious, or will she forever live on only in tavern stories?

(A what-might-have-been story post-NWN2, with some flashbacks to the OC. Be gentle, this is my first attempt!)

Dranis was returning from a successful mission against The Restistance. It was his job to find the secret meeting place of the Za'rashin, the highest faction of The Restistance.

Harper isn't exactly hero material...she's a bard, a damn good one, and has spent most of her life blandishing tales about other people. And more than a few are looking to her for something more...

The Forge - Part One: The Orcslicer Tavern Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 5 months ago

The near drunken dwarf slumped back into his chair that was situated in the middle of the only tavern in Waterdeep that was restricted to dwarves, although the occasional human, or even elf would wander in. When the barmaid came near his table, he grabbed her posterior to get her attention, which definitely got it; and got him a slap across his bearded face.

The main character of this story is a young man/old teenager (At the beginning, anyway) by the name of Tarranauborn on the island of Bohortha Eilan, and living in the city of Tregonethra, which lies on the Northwest side of the island, facing towards a long peninsula from the mainland. Its also one of the trading hubs, as well as the primary place for seafood.

The first chapter of a detailed and mostly accurate novelisation of the NWN2 Original Campaign, this story portrays the events of the night when the silver sword was shattered in battle with the King of Shadows, in the fields of a small village in the Mere of Dead Men; the night that will shape the lives of others for years to come.

Bitter cold hung in the air as dark storm clouds blocked out the moon, throwing the wind-blasted tundra into near total darkness. The wind howled with berserker fury as it scoured the plains for any spark of warmth to steal. From the dark clouds above, a light snow had begun, being driven on whirling eddies by the lustful winds.

First Stand Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 5 months ago

From a hillock across the river Mirar, Kellan Truit peered at the growing army through his spyglass. The city of Luskan was emptying. He shook his head in dismay. There was very little his small force could do to slow down the Luskan onslaught. Fifty men would be brushed aside with no more thought than a dragon might give to a mosquito. Still, Lord Nasher's orders were clear: delay the Luskans for as long as possible, to give the Lords' Alliance time to gather its strength. At the very least, the river was unfordable and the ice-ridden coastline was too dangerous for Luskan ships, so the stone bridge across the Mirar was the only place that they would be able to cross Kellan offered his spyglass to his lieutenant, Ainar, but she shook her head.

The Tale of Thunder - Chapter One (The End of the Beginning) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 5 months ago

The White Stallion base camp looked similar to the base camps Thunder had seen before. Logs had been lashed together to form a wall around the entire base. A large pit had been dug around the entire outside of the wall, large spikes hidden at the bottom of it by large mounds of dirt heaped up on the other side of the pit. At the entrance a few logs lay across the pit to allow entry to the camp. The camp was filled with activity; soldiers moved about talking amongst themselves, soldiers stood guard in towers spaced at hundred foot intervals around the inside of the wall, as well as soldiers practicing swordplay.

Drums from the Deep Migrate Wizard 2015-10-16 4 years 5 months ago

This is a poem I wrote while playing around with the Toolset. And then I accidently recalled the scene of The Mines of Moria where Pippin drops the skeleton, chain and bucket into the well.

This poem is written in the idea of the feeling, which was most probably shared by every member of the Fellowship, while awaiting the drums drawing closer. I tried to capture the fright which must have reigned while standing there, hearing that repeatitive drumming noise echoing through the mines.

Feel free to use it, or comment (constructive) on it. I would love to hear what such users as yourself feel and think while reading this, and your experience. Please vote as well, so I could have a reflection of the users' opinion.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Three - An Adventure Underground) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-24 4 years 5 months ago

As the morning sun began to rise in the sky, the two friends eagerly made their way through the dense forest undergrowth. Despite the fact that Carek seemed to take this route quite often, it seemed so overgrown with coarse brambles and vines that one could well believe that no creature had ever set foot along it. There was an underlying hum of forest noise - creatures talking amongst themselves in their own tongues. They were most probably discussing the two intruders into their domain, giants by comparison. Occasionally one of these creatures would dart out from between the bushes, run startled across the track and vanish into the undergrowth the other side. It gave Tarok quite a shock the first time, and he almost leapt backwards in fright. Carek, however, was accustomed to almost all of the surprises that the forest could throw at him. Almost all.

The brave adventurers faced their first adversaries, a group of eight skeletons.

"Then, will you give me your word?"

The central tower's doors would not open without it, and if they did, it would be only for one of the pair. Standing outside of the imposing stone circle, the man dressed in robes made his reply. He was clearly a priest, judged by both his speech and visage, for only a priest would be holding his hands in steel gauntlets when outside of them his only protection was that of a thick, black woolen cape overbearing plain linen robes. Once the vow was declared, it took only a flip of his complement's wrists to feel that, indeed, he had no evil intent. The paladin himself was certain before, but felt the need, as dictated in his scriptures, more important than his most sound judgement.

Tales of Mystrum - The Arrival (Prologue) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-06 4 years 5 months ago

Merlin of Camelot and King Arthur fame, fresh from his fight with Morgana, finds that Earth is quickly becoming a realm devoid of magic, and use for him.

Once there, he encounters a band of fantastic youths, and together, they set forth on a journey that will either forge or destroy an entire world...

Building a Better Mousetrap - The Villain in Neverwinter Nights Migrate Wizard 2015-11-09 4 years 5 months ago

I recently edited an article written by Michael Barjin at Neverwinter Vault called “The Nature of Villains.” The goal of his article was to describe how a module builder might “create a good villain”. He gave tips on what to think about when creating a villain for Neverwinter Nights: the background (what created the villain); the motivation (what does the villain want); and the play (what to do with your villain).

Even though English is not Michael’s first language, his article did make me think about the opportunity that we will have as creators with Neverwinter Nights. In literature and especially in movies, the reader or moviegoer connects with the villain in various ways. This connection creates an emotional attachment for the viewer (or reader). When done well, the antagonist can raise the level of the work involved to a higher level.

One of the greatest draws of Neverwinter Nights is the opportunity for game designers or Dungeon Masters to create stories that others can play through and enjoy. One of the greatest challenges with Neverwinter Nights will be to create villains that will stir the hearts of our players. What follows is an attempt to address this challenge, and it will be presented in three parts

The Uber Class in 3rd Edition Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 6 months ago

I am seeing a rather disturbing trend on the boards these days. I shouldn't be concerned with it, really, considering everything else going on in the world, but I seem to see this discussion crop up with every possible CRPG out there. It's as if the idiots everywhere have a committee that meets monthly to discuss how and when they are going to post on a public board about how they can't be the coolest class known to mankind, garnering the love of peasants and nobles throughout the cyberverse.

Well, anyone except my ex-wife, she’ll tell you a different story, but I digress.

Why Monks Don't Suck Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 6 months ago

I have seen a ton of people, myself included, turn away from this class because of its inability to use a variety of weapons or armor or magic items, not to mention the requirement of having to be some degree of lawful. Throw that in with the inability to multiclass freely (under most circumstances - some new supplements allow you to do so) and you have to really be committed to playing a monk throughout the campaign. If you take the time to check into the monk, you can see that this is not such a bad idea.

Conversation Tutorial - Part Two Migrate Wizard 2015-11-12 4 years 6 months ago

In my first tutorial, you learnt how to build a simple 'Go fetch!' quest using the Conversation Editor and the Script Wizard, without having to actually write a single line of code. In Part II, you will learn how to add Journal entries for your quest, and how to make your module multi-lingual. We will make a simple modification to change the quest from a 'Go fetch!' to a variation on the 'Go kill!' theme. While we're at it, we'll look in on Area Transitions, and the Faction Editor on the way.

This tutorial is an example for new DMs who want to create a setting for their modules. Together we will see the creation of a module in the kingdom of Heirokanth, and in future tutorials we will create a story and add the other ingredients necessary to complete a module.

Editing a .ITP File Migrate Wizard 2015-11-13 4 years 6 months ago

What is a .ITP file? ITP files are simply files that define what shows up on the selection lists for tiles, creatures, placeables, and the other lists within the toolset. Tileset ITP files are really the only ones you would want to edit, since Bioware provided a custom list for every other type of list.
