A little something to spice up the OC.

The Tale of Thunder - Chapter Two (Beyond Kara-Tur - Part Eight: The Puzzles of the Weave) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 7 months ago

The tenday seemed to pass by slowly. Everyday Killian would meet with Elric for a few hours and in that time, Killian was making slow progress. Keeping hold of the Weave proved to be very difficult and kept slipping from his grip. He'd stretch his mind and grab a handful of the Weave, then touch the symbols with his mind before realizing the Weave had drained through his fingers entirely.

The Land of Caern - Seeker (Prologue) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 7 months ago

Gareth Beckwin looked out over the Hall, which was more than half full just two hours past sunrise. Gareth stood on a dais, left hand resting on one of the back posts of Duke Olandis Pell's throne. The grand chair was the only seat in the Hall. The many benches in the great room had been removed in order to fit more people into the Hall. The commoners all had their reasons for being present this day, and all looked forward to speaking to their Duke. Olandis Pell had not yet arrived and was not expected for another hour at least.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Nine - The First Test) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 7 months ago

After the excitement of the previous night's celebration feast, none of the group particularly relished the thought of returning to the task before them. They now had a safe wall surrounding their forest home, but much remained to be done over the coming weeks. The tower was the next stage to be built, and it was certainly going to provide a great number of problems.

Drums from the Deep Migrate Wizard 2015-10-16 4 years 7 months ago

This is a poem I wrote while playing around with the Toolset. And then I accidently recalled the scene of The Mines of Moria where Pippin drops the skeleton, chain and bucket into the well.

This poem is written in the idea of the feeling, which was most probably shared by every member of the Fellowship, while awaiting the drums drawing closer. I tried to capture the fright which must have reigned while standing there, hearing that repeatitive drumming noise echoing through the mines.

Feel free to use it, or comment (constructive) on it. I would love to hear what such users as yourself feel and think while reading this, and your experience. Please vote as well, so I could have a reflection of the users' opinion.

The Way of the Hunter - Weakness (Chapter Twenty-Five) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-10 4 years 7 months ago

As the dust settles after the battle with the King of Shadows, the people of Neverwinter wait in anticipation for the triumphant return of their heroes...but they never came back. What became of their champions? Where is the Knight-Captain? Will she finally return victorious, or will she forever live on only in tavern stories?

(A what-might-have-been story post-NWN2, with some flashbacks to the OC. Be gentle, this is my first attempt!)

Prophecy of the Talisman - Chapter One (Page Eleven) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-04 4 years 7 months ago

"Split up and take cover!" Jeran yelled as he raced for the closest recess in the rock that would offer some protection. As Jeran dove for cover, a shower of large hailstones pelted the area where he had been only moments before. Catching his breathe, he peered over the safety of the rock face to catch a glimpse of his comrades. Kal'im had found a similar recess to hide in while Kerli had pressed himself into a small nook against the rock face from where the attacks were coming from.

A Tear Lost In the Rain Migrate Wizard 2015-09-30 4 years 7 months ago

The day had been overcast since mid-morning and the clouds had grown darker and heavier as it had passed into evening, finally releasing a torrent of rain, wind and lightning not too long ago. Smythe Higgins sat near the doorway just inside the roadside inns front door sipping at a cup of dandelion tea, waiting and watching the people now pouring into the tavern. The crowd was much larger tonight at the Edmonds Tavern and Inn then usual because of the storm, which suited him just fine. He was only after two people in particular and having lots of people around to confirm he was in the inn made things much easier.

The Protector - Chapter One (Peace) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 7 months ago

A shadowy figure rested easily in the perch of an old oak tree listening to the soft and fading winter wind as it rustled the leaves around him. Sethison held a special place in his heart for the forest edge of Silverwood along the banks of the river Rauvin. He was at peace with an evening such as this only a half-days travel away from his home in Silverymoon. It was here in the wilderness surrounding the river where he could still find peace from the everyday bustle. He gazed down on the pale reflections of Selune off the rivers casual drifting surface. Content to fight the chill and watch the beautiful moon rise high into the night, Seth leaned back against the trunk of the great oak finding solace in its strength. His thoughts drifted as he thanked this old companion for such a great view. As if in response, the winds swirled up through the large branches, sending subtle vibrations through the oak and into Seth's relaxed body. It was here that Sethison Alandar, not only enjoyed the tranquility of the world around him, but also accepted his first assignment as a Protector of Silverymoon and its surroundings. He could not think of a better place to be assigned patrols and for him, this night, it seemed more a privilege than an assignment. Seth relived the recent memory of his acceptance into Silverymoon's Protectors Guild, a proud day indeed, for him and his parents, when he completed his training and education at the University of Silverymoon. A wry smile crossed his lips as he recalled the embrace of his father seeing him off for his first month of duty.

Planetouched - Chapter Seven (Discussion and Decision) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-18 4 years 7 months ago

A young girl forced into a destiny she never wanted finally accepts her fate, but is it set in stone? A NWN 2 fanfic with twists here and there and an ending I would have preferred.

Silly Adventurers (Part Two) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-26 4 years 7 months ago

Phew! FINALLY finished that dang adventure. I wish I'd never started it now. Think of anything that could go wrong, and then add 4 more things going wrong and you have what happened in this adventure. This group of adventurers should have their wisdom reduced to 0 for this.

Tales of A Planeswalker - The Walker (Chapter One) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-22 4 years 7 months ago

The wind had started as just a whisper, flowing in from the east to cool the scorched earth. Then it had become a bit stronger causing the leaves of the trees to sway. Now the wind was a roar, almost a living thing it seemed to the few that lived on the Alabaster plains. Huddled in their houses of wood and sod the villagers prayed to the god of the storms for relief but they found none as the wind continues to blow. Then as soon as it had begun the wind stopped.

Caer Chan Carega #8 Migrate Wizard 2015-10-13 4 years 7 months ago

This is an unpolished (but finished) story that takes place somewhere in the world that I created. It was written as a means of showing off the actions and abilities of Magic, in this case the Elemental Magic of Earth. There will be 6 of these stories, for the 6 forms of magic: The four Elements (Air, Earth, Water, Fire), Spirit, and Nature magic. The four elements, are, as usual for elemental magic, tied together somewhat, although in a slightly different manner: Air opposes Fire, and Earth opposes Water. Spirit and Nature magic are entirely different, one based on the existence of the spirit world (think Greek Hades, as a general guide), and Nature magic, which is very totemic in nature. This story will be published in 15 installments.

This is part eight of the story of Earth. This takes place in a more defined setting, the city of Tri-Hauwcerton, more easily called the city of Earth. It lies in the North and West, cupped by the valley of a great mountain range.

I ended up choosing an image that represented Chloddio's love of the high mountains

The Way of the Hunter - The Final Battle (Chapter Five) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-09 4 years 7 months ago

As the dust settles after the battle with the King of Shadows, the people of Neverwinter wait in anticipation for the triumphant return of their heroes...but they never came back. What became of their champions? Where is the Knight-Captain? Will she finally return victorious, or will she forever live on only in tavern stories?

Hero's Song - Chapter One Migrate Wizard 2015-10-07 4 years 7 months ago

Harper isn't exactly hero material...she's a bard, a damn good one, and has spent most of her life blandishing tales about other people. And when her life is thrust onto a pinwheel track of death, danger, magic, and adventure, she finds more and more people look to her for answers. And more than a few are looking to her for something more...

Chapter One - Aribeth The Willing Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 7 months ago

I stepped through the portal and didn't look back. Bright light blinded me as I appeared back at Castle NeverWinter.
My tasks were done. My journey...finished, or has it just begun?

Embers of Black - Chapter Five Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

Cold and dark pervaded everything. Each movement brought agonizing pain in a stomach that felt strangely warm. Probing fingers came away hot and sticky, sending shooting pains up and down a body that felt battered beyond belief. Rocks dug into skin from above as well as below.

Wilderness: Book One - The Forest (Chapter Eighteen - The Perilous Mountains) Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 7 months ago

The longer the group stayed in Lanwyn, the less they wanted to leave its comfortable walls, and venture northwards towards the seemingly impenetrable mountains beyond. Those dark grey peaks dominated the horizon, jutting awkwardly into the skyline behind the great lake of Thrynn. The rich waters of the lake supported the townsfolk with a plentiful supply of fish, as well as providing the easiest way to trade across to the elven settlements to the west, and the smaller farming communities to the north and east.

Adjudication - Part Two Migrate Wizard 2015-10-17 4 years 7 months ago

Continuation of 'Adjudication - Part I'.

The Tale of the Apprentice #1 Migrate Wizard 2015-10-16 4 years 7 months ago

The main character of this story is a young man/old teenager (At the beginning, anyway) by the name of Tarranauborn on the island of Bohortha Eilan, and living in the city of Tregonethra, which lies on the Northwest side of the island, facing towards a long peninsula from the mainland. Its also one of the trading hubs, as well as the primary place for seafood.

An image of the main character (although don't get too caught up in the crystals).

Soul Stone - Part Two Migrate Wizard 2015-10-04 4 years 7 months ago

"Awaken him, Edele." Ruien stated.

"I still says we head east." Kalamaar argued.

Edele was already working on Arinar. Her right hand, lifted a foot or two above Arinar's face, began to shimmer and flash with an unearthly light. As the shimmering grew stronger in intensity, Kalamaar had to shield his eyes, which were accustomed to the dark, subterranean atmosphere of his mountain homeland. The surroundings of the trio began to become devoid of what little sunlight was left, as Edele seemed to be harnessing and manipulating the very essence of the sun. With a great, climactic flash, Arinar was awake, alert, his eyes missing their pupils.

The Game Masters of Spire Island - Chapter Two Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 7 months ago

William had indeed heard mention of the Game Masters in a few of the more ancient texts he had researched but it was normally just a passing reference. All he really knew about them was that they lived on Spire Island before the Plague and they were near god-like in power.

Sea Of Shadows - Page Five Migrate Wizard 2015-09-28 4 years 7 months ago

"Why is you only stayed in the village for less then a day?" the wizard began.

"We only came to fetch an item from Ybirals house." Gwaemos replied.

"Show me the object." the wizard demanded stretching his hand out to recieve to item.

Bessie the Vampire Slayer Migrate Wizard 2015-09-24 4 years 7 months ago

The following story is based on a true event. I was playing "The Spires of Ravenloft" mod with a friend and I charmed an ox to follow me around. The ox followed me into Ravenloft itself and turned out to be quite a fighter. I expanded on the incident and then wrote the following story. Before this comes up... some cows do have horns, it depends on the species.

The Way of the Hunter - A Difficult Decision (Chapter Forty-Two) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-13 4 years 7 months ago

Gurt Migrate Wizard 2015-10-03 4 years 7 months ago

Being of half-orc descent, Gurt is a man of gigantic proportions. He lived in a humble human village in a darker region of the sword coast. No one knew who his parents were, and until the age of 15 Gurt was treated as a normal, somewhat slow-witted human child. But when his orc bloodline became apparent he was banished into the wilderness.

Blade in the Dark Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

The forest of Cormanthor was host to many different and often dangerous creatures. Theris did not know that the drow inhabited the haunted wood as well.

He almost didn't see it coming. The glint of a drawn weapon, however, alerted him to the danger he and his party were in. He immediately turned to his allies, Zartek and Djarunen, and cocked his head to his left where he saw the approaching encounter. The others nodded their heads and they readied for a fight.

Embers of Black - Chapter Fourteen Migrate Wizard 2015-09-29 4 years 7 months ago

A softly-glowing ball of magical radiance flashed into being in the night above the score of orcs in the patrol and then faded, blinding their sensitive eyes.

The white-clad figures that rose from the snow in a semi-circle on the orcs' flank had been careful to keep their eyes closed then that magical light had appeared, and they saw quite well in the pale moonlight, arrows leaping from polished bows, finding targets in the ranks of the bedazzled orcs. Within a matter of moments, the entire patrol was down, lithe shapes making their way among the groaning humanoids, finishing off the wounded with quick motions of sword or dagger.

Decisions Migrate Wizard 2015-09-25 4 years 7 months ago

Zenyth Bloodstone looked at the smoldering remains of the rural tavern. Watching the thick gray smoke rise to the overcast heavens, the shrouded drow wondered how things could have gone so wrong, so quickly. The recent turbulent events rattled inside his hooded head.

Giant Blue Underpants - Part One Migrate Wizard 2015-09-21 4 years 7 months ago

Ths was written as a CutScene/Movie script for the CTP. Sadly there is no one on the staff who is a CutScene artist, and so I shelved it to gather dust. Some of you may wish it had remained that way! Inspired by the likes of Generika & The Order Of The Stick Comic strips (though certainly nowhere near their class), I gathered enough courage to try my hand at a comic dialogue.

Join Ranger Bert and his talking Bow on a quest to save the world from utter chaos...by returning the stolen Giant Blue Underpants.

The Way of the Hunter - Family Reunion (Chapter Thirty-Nine) Migrate Wizard 2015-10-12 4 years 7 months ago

Neverwinter Moments - The Fine Art of Alchemy Migrate Wizard 2015-10-08 4 years 7 months ago

Her eager tone caught him, and he answered, "It is a very potent cure for headaches."

"I shall remember that. My father gets headaches very often." The child sounded a bit sad.

"I would think so," muttered Sand to himself.

The Relic Migrate Wizard 2015-10-02 4 years 7 months ago

They would not get away with this. There was no way that Syndira was going to let those goblins keep the precious artifact, which her village had held sacred for centuries. She blamed herself somewhat for the disappearance of the relic. Had she not been away visiting an old friend in Hillsfar, she could have defended the village from the goblin raid. But the news had reached her soon enough, and her friend had agreed to accompany her to help reclaim their prize possession. And although the two of them had not fought side by side in years, Syndira knew that she and Tomas would still be a formidable pair in combat.

View from the Vault - The Passion of thegeorge Migrate Wizard 2015-11-12 4 years 7 months ago

Every now and then I am going to write an article about my observations as site manager of the Neverwinter Vault. While we have many types of spotlights and entries that are requested by community members, these articles will be based solely by my feelings, observations, and slightly askew perspective. Because of this, take them at face value. Articles about Pale Masters are not slights against clerics or people who love to play them, they are merely articles about Pale Masters. Articles about NWN2 are not slights against NWN1, they are simply NWN2 articles.

Dear Strumpet - I'm Not An Ogre Migrate Wizard 2015-11-09 4 years 7 months ago

Dear Strumpet,

I’m an alchemist running a small shop outside of Luskin and have run into a bit of a snag. While experimenting with two elixirs, I apparently distilled the wrong mixture of herbs and, well, now I’m an ogre. Just so you know, I’m not normally an ogre. Ask anyone! Well, anyone except my ex-wife, she’ll tell you a different story, but I digress.

The Uber Class in 3rd Edition Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

I am seeing a rather disturbing trend on the boards these days. I shouldn't be concerned with it, really, considering everything else going on in the world, but I seem to see this discussion crop up with every possible CRPG out there. It's as if the idiots everywhere have a committee that meets monthly to discuss how and when they are going to post on a public board about how they can't be the coolest class known to mankind, garnering the love of peasants and nobles throughout the cyberverse.

Why Monks Don't Suck Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

I have seen a ton of people, myself included, turn away from this class because of its inability to use a variety of weapons or armor or magic items, not to mention the requirement of having to be some degree of lawful. Throw that in with the inability to multiclass freely (under most circumstances - some new supplements allow you to do so) and you have to really be committed to playing a monk throughout the campaign. If you take the time to check into the monk, you can see that this is not such a bad idea.

Judging NWN Migrate Wizard 2015-11-11 4 years 7 months ago

After reading the interesting comments to the review post we made earlier I thought I would expand on it a bit. It may seem that one can review NWN on it's own, but my standing is that the game *is* the community. Let me give you the analogy that I am basing this on.

ALFA - First Steps Migrate Wizard 2015-11-09 4 years 7 months ago

So today was the launch of ALFA and it was a great excuse to get to do some playing thanks to some press passes from the team. After logging in at their website I was taken to the member's page which had links for their hak pack (80MB) and a large list of addresses for their servers. Taking note of the password, I downloaded the file and started off on the server run by Mandos, ALFA's project administrator which covered Arabel.

Bounty Hunters In Persistent Worlds - A Study on NPCs in Neverwinter Nights (Part Two) Migrate Wizard 2016-03-26 4 years 2 months ago

In the first part of this discussion, I laid out an ambitious plan for implementing a NPC Bounty Hunter in a persistent world. I would like to thank everyone who gave me constructive criticism on the article. The main thought relayed was on the complexity of the matter at hand. I think I have a unique perspective on the abilities of NeverWinterNights and NWScript. I view it as an envelope.

Within the envelope will be the functions created by the wizards. Here is your NPC. On a radius trigger around him, he converses with you. If he doesn't get the answer he wants, he attacks. So on and so forth. On the edge of the envelope will be modifications of the scripts created by the wizards. Adding a little spice to the game, so to speak. I want to exist on the other side of the envelope, developing fantastic situations and making the scripting language conform to it. You have probably heard managers or efficiency experts refer to this as thinking "outside the box." Well, that's what I want to do. These are articles to show you not specific ways to code new ideas, but instead how to stucture your thoughts to make it work.

This article is aimed at DMs of Neverwinter Nights games who have not yet decided on how to deal with Player Killers (or PKillers, or just PKs).
